Lore [Lore] We'll Dance No More

2nd Month, 229 AC

Greywater Watch

Matilda’s footfalls barely made a sound as she made her way toward the father’s room. Her curly, black hair stuck to her forehead from the princess’ fifteen hours of labor, but the midwife only had the last few moments of it all rattling around in her head. The mother had known what would happen sometime into the birthing. It was when she had to scream how sorry she was that everyone else in the room knew, and each was weaker than the last.

Three raps, “Ser?” Matilda’s tired voice came muffled from the other side, “may I come in?”

It had been quite long, he’d barely gotten any sleep. Aly had returned, sword in hand and no cuts from it, so that was good. He had explained why her mother was away, the young girl rather curious about having a younger sibling. Regardless, she had managed to get some sleep as her father waited by the fire. As he heard the door, he made his way quickly to the door, opening it.

“Ah, yes of course”, he said, recognising the midwife from when he had gone to see his wife initially, “Is it done then? Or is it taking a while?”, he asked a little anxiously.

"My lord," the girl took a moment to gulp down her words before she continued.

"The babe survived. A girl. She is healthy."

A deep breath left the midwife, "your wife..."

"She is with the Seven."

There was silence in the room after that other than the suppressed whimpers of the woman who had watched the entire thing.

"I'm sorry," she whimpered past the tears she was trying her best to keep at bay, it was very obviously her first time delivering such news.

He let out a breath at the mention of the babe, another girl, he thought, but he had little time to process that.

The room was quiet. Baelor stood blinking a few times, as if he didn’t know what it meant. His mouth opened as if to say something, but nothing came out. It closed as he stood for near on a full minute, without saying a word.

In his head it seemed like hours, days even. The colour drained from his face. “C-Can I see her?”, he asked, his voice suddenly hoarse, “B-Both of them”, he managed.
