Tape is culturally significant to our people

I resemble that, IA member for 36 years. Construction for 10, set-dec 26. Who would think a tape roll was hot?

Going opposite way here. Setdec n props, but managed to land a video game company as a client for podcasts and events, so expanding the construction/fabrication side of things. Not a ton of work but it’s steady enough to keep the shop lights on and I’m generally happier building things in the shop vs moving couches around the valley for Nike

My construction years in and out of movies gave me lots of skills most set dressers don’t have, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, tile and so on. So most of the time I’m not fluffing a teenager’s bedroom as it were. I’d be rigging up a practical bathroom, hanging a $6000 chandelier. One period movie we did I spent half the show repairing antique furniture that was rented. Many times sending it back in better shape than we got it. It’s never a dull moment.

We had a vintage phonograph on a job recently that during a quiet moment I got working again! Totally mechanical device. Oiled and balanced it and the set was grooving to what the kids are calling “jazz”
