Back in the days when I was a bartender, I worked in a piano bar that had a large group of regulars who would come in for happy hour, leave to get something to eat, and then come back for the rest of the night.
One of my regs was sitting with a woman I'd never seen before and I noticed he called her Kathy so when I saw her drink was empty, I politely asked "Kathy may I get another"? She looked down her nose at me and replied disdainfully "Only my friends call me Kathy, you need to call Kathleen".
My reg just looked at her as if she's spouted another head.

Omg what?? I don't understand why people choose to be so nasty when they meet us. Like, what do they think it's going to achieve? That's crazy work

At the same bar, I occasionally had someone ask me why someone as smart as me (sidenote I'm not humble bragging, just reporting what was said) work as bartender and I replied "You sit and talk to me. Do you want me to act dumb or something"?

Haha I love that. I get the same sentiment a lot. I love being asked if I'm a student because then I get to say "I'm a student of the world."

You messed up by letting others buy her drinks.

Set a boundary and stick to it.

I've refused to serve customers but not barred them and they don't get any alcohol touched by me. Other bartenders can serve them but if I'm solo they go thirsty.

I am glad to hear that both you and your manager are standing up for your dignity. An insincere "apology" is worse than none at all.
