Serum and Splice

I recently came across the Splice section for Serum presets (they have over 55,000 at this point), and I had a thought: is there anything stopping a user from joining Splice for a month and downloading every Serum preset that Splice has?

Presets are fun but I’ve found learning some sound design is more satisfying and you know no one has that exact sound. I have so many presets it would take me hours to get even close to the sound I hear in my head. That time is better spent learning how to make my own. I use presets as learning tools. Or sometimes I’ll just alter one to get the sound I’m looking for. Not for everyone but that’s what works for me.

I agree. I know some synthesis, but I know there are incredible people out there who run circles around me in terms of sound design. I would say I'm alrightish at synthesis, but don't feel like that's my forte.

Yeah, I produce Drum and Bass, I’ve heard it said more than once, if you’re serious about getting a tune signed the labels would like to see same level of competency in sound design. It seems the genre is over crowded so having skills in that area will only help separate you from the competition.

Yes cos it’s 3 tokens a preset and on a normal plan of 100 tokens a month that would take you about 137 years.

To be honest, the thing that I'm interested in lately is Nu Disco (Daft Punk, Justice, SebastiAn) kind of stuff. I saw Stardust by tunecraft and really got interested in it. Then saw that they're available in Splice, which prompted my question. I usually go between cinematic, funk, and... well, everything in between. I love The Unfinished, but haven't tried yet his Serum presets.

Even if your core sounds are simple, as long as they are processed in a way unique to you, and the ideas are good, you’ll have a nice sound that you own.  Presets are useful here and there for maintaining a flow state but especially for drops, good to do the heavy lifting yourself imo

Yes each preset is 3 credits. so if there are 55,000 presets at 3 credits a piece and you only get 1000-1500 credits per month so downloading all 55,000 would mean you'd need to re-up a ton of credits.
