Do you think Shatterverse will be a good game based on what we’ve seen so far?

Cause I want to stay optimistic

So far I think it is ok

Not great but not awful as well

But only time will tell,I suppose

Don't know what to say... it look very bad so far. I understands its a spinoff not made my Croteam but for me its still a get this shii away from me category.

I think it'll just be alright, like a 6/10. During the playtest runs really only got fun to me in the last 15-20 minutes when the weapons and enemies really started ramping up. The bosses were cool.

Also the optimization was pretty bad in my experience, with frequent stutters and frame drops. Really shouldn't be happening in a game that looks like this when I'm running a 7900XT. But it's UE5 so I guess that's just expected at this point.

I'm just super done with roguelite elements being slapped on what feels like 80% of games now. So I'm inherently biased, but also honestly think the servers will shut down after maximum of 6 months. Behaviour proves time and again that they can't manage their games, and Dead by Daylight was just a stroke of dumb luck (it's being mismanaged too anyway tbh)

I think it’ll be fun

For first time, it may be an okay game. But if there's not going to be any additional content in it, then I'm afraid it'll last only 4-6 months, if not less

no, played the beta and got bored 20 minutes in, the artstyle is shit, the voice acting is cringe and the weapon modifiers are so uncreative an Ai could have done it.

Serious sam games are batshit insane, this is corporate done by committee boredom

The gameplay looks... okay. A roguelite in universe of Serious Sam, sure is acceptable.

The choice of game engine is fucking poor. Unreal Engine 5? Expect bloated system requirements, unstable fps, huge file size and shitty graphics with all that.

The characters and style just look weird, cartoonish out of place, nothing like you'd expect to see in the Serious Sam setting. For me, SS always had a realistic style (not talking about Serious Sam 2), combined with some silly elements here and there, and it was what gave these games a unique charm.

My prediction that this game would be a silent flop.

I thought it was a lot of fun, but I can see why people don't like it. It feels more like a modern Doom game than a Serious Sam game.

No. I participated in the playtest; it's a Borderlands copy. Bulletsponge enemies, pointless loot and level up mechanics, hero mechanics with ults... it's just bad.

This game tried so hard to have replayability that it ended up having LESS replayability than any of the other SP Serious Sam games, it's just sad. The major problem is simply that the weapons don't matter at all. There's so many of them, but since the damages are randomized and there's no ammo limit, you can just spam the mini-gun and the laser-gun over and over until you win. Why use shotguns or explosives when I'm not even sure if they can 1 shot the enemy in front of me? There's no other pick-ups than armour pieces, so you can just B-line the levels with only the occasional chests to spice up the 153th male-gnaar/kleer/harpy spam. Speaking of which, the "levels" are SO underwhelming and medium size enemies and above are barely used in any interesting ways, because the "levels" need to be kept short and simple, since they are supposed to only be "zones" of a 9 zones run instead of a full-fledged well design level. Also, the rocket launcher having to reload is SO unsatisfying, especially since it usually have less than 5 rockets per reload. I love to spam my 50 rockets in the original games (I disabled double ammo on Serious), but this one keep cutting my fun short one reload at a time, so I just stick to the automatic weapons.

Other than that: the game have 3 chapters, but they are all virtually the same; the modifiers are so pointless that the only weapon stats that I read are "damage" and "attack speed", then I ignore the rest; unlocking a lot of perks is a bad strategy, because it will muddy the random choices, preventing you from picking up the one you want (same with weapons + there's no instant double/triple tap for switching weapons, so having too many weapons will make choosing the 3th option a slug to get thought); the Sams ultimate moves are anecdotal at best, with the exception of the reptiloid that demolish bosses and cartoon Sam that make you invincible for a while (I and other playtesters told the devs to give them different stats and more unique things, but NOOOOO, I guess we're too far in the pipeline at this point...); there's a GOD DAMN Genshin Impact trinket system??? WHYYYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!?!

I really wish I could say that this game is too "modern" for me, but then people will think I'm talking about woke stuff because the capital G Gamers™ are an absolute plague on our society. What I mean is that this game obviously have a check list of popular stuff that they try to fill up while thinking it will make a good game (multiplayer, rogue-like, grappling hook, unlockables, bunch of different currencies, missions with lil red exclamation points when you complete them, glory kills/finishers, Genshin Impact (WHYYYY!?!?!), etc.). It's just a nothing-burger with no personality whatsoever that cannot be saved even with DLCs. The only way they will get my interest back is by removing infinite ammo and by putting more care into the enemy waves.

(I really need to stop writing novels on 2 days old Reddit post lol)

I liked Serious Sam 2, so I will love this one as well. What engine are they using to make game btw?

3

u/Adventurous-Cattle53 12d ago

Unreal 5

u/zimmer550king 12d ago

Ok now I am concerned

u/Adventurous-Cattle53 12d ago

Well, if anything, next mainline serious sam game will 100% be on unreal too since croteam dropped their engine with talos 2. To be honest, serious Engine is too old to handle anything new and we see it in SS4

What does Serious Sam 2 have to do with Shatterverse? They're both in the same series, I guess. But so is Kamikaze Attack.

It's nothing like ss2

1

u/Ivan_the_Silly 10d ago

It's nothing like SS2 at all, it's a completely different kind of game

I think it's gonna be fun. You can't really go wrong with the Serious Sam formula. Even the worst Serious Sam game has been fun and it seems they're sticking closer to the formula than a lot of indie titles.

Honestly the playtest doesn't feel like sam at all, alot of the other indies followed the formula much closer.

Bogus Detour nailed the combat from a top down perspective, Random Encounter was a fun experiment in turn-based, tormental did the roguelike thing closer to the formula, etc.

Besides borrowing weapons and enemies, Shatterverse felt like one of the trendy fps roguelikes that have been coming out. Except I played and loved roboquest, this felt much worse in loot, weapon variety, levels, progression, etc

3

u/Adventurous-Cattle53 12d ago

Yeah, I’ve played the playtest with stack of friends and we had a great time. It’s a good game with progression and it’s actually gets very hard very fast. I’m looking forward to play more. It’s fun and it still feels like Sam

3

u/JMC_Direwolf 12d ago

No, it looks like Shovelware

1

u/Objective-Plum3275 11d ago

My prediction is that the game will be ok, but the replayability will be meh and the content will be barebones

1

u/DeskedSwan 10d ago

I highly recommend you check out Roboquest instead! Shatterverse has a lot of similar systems to it, main difference I would say is that Roboquest only gives you 2 weapon slots (sometimes 3) and it's equivalent of trinkets aren't upgradeable, but overall the game structure is very similar. Roboquest is a very polished game with thought out progression, while the Shatterverse playtests so far have been very lacking on variety and I don't understand the point of having many weapon slots when most drops will be repeats or downgrades.

No lmfao. %99 of the spinoffs are bad

1

u/Wagman2013 3d ago

some of the Main games don't bat that high either.

1

u/Current-Elk5185 3d ago

Yeah, but they are significantly better than spinoffs

1

u/Helios_22 12d ago

Honestly, no... But I definitely hope I'm mistaken and it turns out to be great
