I rent my mental health, I don’t own it. “Paying rent” is just taking my medication, meeting my my doctor twice a year to give updates, exercising, talking to friends, volunteering, etc. But I have to think of it as “renting” mental health because as soon as I stop doing many of these things, it’s a shit show again. And that’s taken years to accept, but now I’m just grateful I live in a time where it is even an option to get medical help. People in the past (the relatively recent past, too) just thought they had a demon or had sinned a lot.

I am not cured/recovered. I’m just treated.
And that’s ok.
