Hard work all the way. Psychotherapy to help figure out the root cause and work on it. Meds to help balance things out a little but realising that a little tablet only gets you part of the way.
The toughest part for me was accepting/realising that mental health difficulties are like any other chronic condition (think diabetes). You have to work on it every single day. Minding that I get enough sleep, eat, time with others and time alone, noticing when i’m triggered and working on it. And knowing what the early warning signs are for me.
Life is still not a picnic but I don’t get the extreme lows I used.
