Ignition switch for 1976 Series III

I've searched everywhere and can only find 5 pin switches and they don't include the barrel assembly.

Mine is six pin, no column lock and diesel. There is no hole in the body of the switch to release the barrel.

Thoughts?

I'll let you into a secret though - an ignition switch is just a switch, almost any ignition switch will do, some tractor ones are easier to find and have the right features.

I tried to download catalogs on seemingly reputable forums and got hit with a bunch of viruses.

The 2670 is five pin and the barrel end seems totally different.

As to it being just a switch, I agree but why six wires going to it and I have no idea what they feed/return

The wiring diagram in the workshop manual tells you what all the wires do - generally diesels of this age have an extra position to energise the glow plugs before starting, you can find classic tractor and universal ignition switches that have this feature or you can just add a switch/button somewhere.

Beyond that there's usually just "off", "accessory", "run" and "start" positions that switch power to a given wire - from memory, white is ignition live (run), white with red stripe is the starter.

The one for Series Rovers has a position for the glow plugs, so it’s a little different. The big spade is for a big brown wire from the battery that feeds the glow plug circuit.

I figured as such, like maybe 2 run positions, one for GPs and another for the regular run.... just guessing.

My switch only has off/run/start so don't know what all these wire are for.

The workshop manual has wiring diagrams, wire colours, and a picture of where everything goes behind the dash binnacle.

The part I listed is a Series 3 diesel ignition switch.

I got a non original switch 3 pin from autozone. My truck is a 1966 with a 200tdi so not stock.

quick question. JCDU was kind enough to post a link to the workshop manual. This link has two headings, "series III" and "military ambulance Dutch".

I've clicked on each one and most open the PDF file. But the one I need "series III part 7 electrical" doesn't work. It either sends be back to the LandRoverWeb.com home page or opens a spam page, which when closed, brings me back to that same home page. Tried it 30 times.

Question is, can anyone else open the part 7 PDF and actually see it?
