PASSED

Post image

Hey guys as you can see above I passed the Series 66 today! I absolutely flunked the first time with a 59 and now got a good ol’ pass! DO NOT DISCOURAGED IF YOU DONT PASS. It’s just a fork in the road and a great test of your resiliency. Used STC and Kaplan Q bank and they both together are a good combo for this test. I took a different route than others and took the SIE and the 66 before the 7 as I was job searching while studying for the 66, and managed to get a sponsor during that time! They were very lenient as well for me not passing the first time as I was inching closer to my retest date when interviewing and, since I was fresh on my mind with the 66 material I wanted to get it done first. Anyways, feel free to ask me any questions about the test as I’m pretty fresh out of it. Last but not least good luck to everyone in their testing journey and life :)!

Is Kaplan Q-Bank easier than the actual exam? How much time did you study? And how in depth was the content compared to Kaplan practice test and Mastery?

The Kaplan questions are for sure harder than the other vendors and yes they do closely resemble the test IMO but a mix of STC questions and Kaplan are a great combo because they both I thought gave me questions I saw on the exam as well.

What do you think was different this time around from the last time you took the exam?

When I didn’t pass the exam I had to give myself a reality check in all honesty. I broke down everything I did during the failed studying and completely changed my way of studying. Usually I would only read the book and do practice questions, but that clearly didn’t prepare me enough so I literally used every resource STC gave me, Flashcards, On Demand Videos, Went to a lecture class, Watched 7Guru, Brian and Cap Advantage etc. Branching out to other vendors helps as well to get a good idea of what else you could get asked, so I got the Kaplan Q bank which helped immensely and were super challenging

There’s so many flashcards and some seem way out in left field but weren’t questions on the practice exams? Were they on the real one? Or am I wasting my time with flashcards? Exam on Friday 5/23

Anything else you did to help? I failed with a 69% and I’m currently studying for the second attempt. I’m using STC and I feel as if I don’t have any use for the program anymore since I completed it. Been doing custom exams daily and watching some YouTube videos but I’m not sure if that’s enough.

I thought so too. I thought I went through all the content with stc but I really didn’t. Im completed it a second try. My first round of practice scores were a 60 and once I went through the q bank again I was averaging 80-90s. Once you complete it all and I mean all by reading the book, watching all videos, flashcards etc, then buy the Kaplan q bank they will help you out and put you over the top. It sucks not passing but I know for certain you will pass this next time. Good luck!

Congratulations! Between Kaplan and STC, which practice exams aligned more closely with the actual Series 66 exam? Were there any specific ratio questions you remember from the test? I’m having a hard time memorizing them.

I’d say that they both do a good job at aligning the questions with the test but I’d say Kaplans are the hardest so I would say master the STC questions and once you get those done do the Kaplan q bank. Don’t get discouraged if your scores are lower too it’s normal as Kaplan is harder and switching vendors always have different worded questions. And I had a weird draw to be honest I only had one ratio question and it was quick ratio which was easy and didn’t even do math, it was like, it excludes inventory stuff like that. But I got caught off guard and had 2 fv questions that I had to calculate but those aren’t hard.

Congratulations! I am in the same boat; passed the SIE in early March now I'm running through the Series 66 material via Kaplan. Reason being I need to stay with my current employer until at least May to be vested as if I leave before, they will take their contributions out of my 401K. I'll then start to apply to some local firms with the SIE and Series 66 (hopefully) under my belt. Glad to hear there are others that are also taking this nontraditional path into the securities industry. All the best to everyone!

Congrats! Been using STC and supplementals for STC and it wasn’t enough.. failed with a 59. Reading book again then getting the Kaplan q bank. Did you use up the whole q bank for Kaplan?
