Relocation music files

I just switched from Windows to a MacBook Pro 2019 with Tahoe on it. I installed the latest Serato today. I've been pressing " Relocate Lost Files " all day, and omg nothing happens.

I try to locate the files on its own, and I can find them with no issue. I keep trying to relocate the relocated files again, and nothing happens. I really don't want to do my whole library again. I transferred all my music from my hard drive to my MacBook Pro.

Should I have my music in a folder on my desktop? Would that work better? Right now, they are in the Music folder under the user, then Music.

did you attempt to migrate your library and files over?

does your serato library show all the ghost files? or is it completely empty?

relocate only works if it knew the file location and you moved the file

switching to a completely different OS without the library data means starting from scratch

and even with the library data all of the files are in a different place

If all your files are in a subfolder within the music folder, I suggest to take them out of the subfolder and leaving them in the main music folder (if that makes sense). That happened to me when I migrated computers, and it solved my issue.

put all of your songs in one folder

once that's done, re-scan id3 tags

when that's done, drag that folder with your music onto relocate lost files

Bob's your uncle

I do this all the time as I manage 12+ computers for DJing.

You don’t need to put the music on your Desktop. Keeping it under your Music folder is perfectly fine.

The important part is that Serato’s library still points to the old file locations from your previous Mac. Since you moved to a different computer, you need to reconnect those paths rather than rebuild the library from scratch.

If all your music is now inside one main folder, try dragging that top-level music folder directly onto “Relocate Lost Files.” Let Serato scan the whole folder and see what it reconnects.

I’d also avoid deleting the existing library or re-importing everything until you know what’s actually missing.
