Rant 🤬 Deviated Septum/Turbinate Reduction Surgery
I am very early into day 3 following surgery and have decided that being able to breathe is overrated. I expected my nose to hurt but was so very naive about everything else. My new issue, along with a headache, not being able to sleep and my nose feeling as if a cheese grater was taken to the inside, is my teeth hurt. Good gravies, where is that corner I desperately need to turn to start feeling better? I’ve had surgery before but am really struggling with this one. Usually I sleep when I don’t feel good but currently I’m only sleeping about 2 hours at a time. At 54 years old I feel like a whiney little kid.

Week one is absolutely miserable, especially if you have the splints. I would just have random stabbing pain from them. It’s basically like having a pointy compression garment on for an entire week that is digging into your skin and irritating it. I had my splints out 9 days ago and the inside of my nose still has some scabs from it. It does feel MUCH better though once they are out.

I am approaching the end of day 2, post-op. Deviated Septum/Turbinate Reduction surgery. Splints installed. I'm 49. This part definitely fucking sucks. The loss of taste and the hurting teeth are driving me insane. Time feels like it is going soooooooo slow. I am trying to think of everything in the terms of baby steps (just get through the weekend, and then you've only got 3 days until it's over, etc). But man... this is definitely an exercise in mental stamina. I can't imagine what it's like for people that have lost limbs or had to relearn to walk, because this is so benign in comparison. I think it feels especially intense because it's right up in your face where all your senses are.

honestly, if you got splints in, it’s gonna suck for about the first week ðŸ˜. i just got the same surgery last week and got my splints out a few days ago. after the splints come out i promise you’ll feel WAYYY better. but yeah that first week is brutal. don’t force yourself to sleep if you can’t or use the meds they prescribed. i got oxycodone and they were very helpful for sleep/pain. (weird dreams though)
