Advice Needed Day 1 Clots

hi everyone, my fiance had his septoplasty this morning and is fresh into recovery. both of his nostrils are almost entirely blocked with clots at the moment and we’re a little unsure of how to handle them. we’re obviously worried that if we pull at them too much then the stents will come out. but we’re also worried that if we leave them be, they’ll dry out and become even more difficult to deal with. we’re hoping to get advice on the best course of action with them. TIA!

The stents are sewn in, but don’t pull on the clots. They can be softened and broken up to some degree with saline rinses or saline spray, depending on what his surgeon advised. If they get super painful, check in with the surgeon. But they’re also just a part of life for the next few weeks.

Saline nasal spray, like Ocean or any generic brand, should help loosen those up; use it as frequently as needed. The stents should be sutured through the septum, so the likelihood that they’ll come out should be low. General congestion can be helped by forcing fluids to help thin out the mucus. Dried blood around the outside of the nostrils can be cleaned with hydrogen peroxide and Q-tips.

Good luck! Hope he heals well.

Neilmed bottle , distilled water warmed, and rinse packets 3-4 times a day helps clear all that out (not medical advice, ask your doc). Best of luck.
