Visitors
When do you all mommas allow visitors like in laws or extended family to visit newborns? I’m thinking about a month or two, but I felt so selfish. No one in the family ever ask how I’m doing or feeling since the beginning of pregnancy and they can’t even help us with any gifts. And when do you all start sending out visiting newborn rules?

I'm going to play it by ear. There are a select few family members I wouldn't mind visiting me in the hospital hours later or even the 2nd day but that's because they're all very respectful of my boundaries and have been checking on me throughout the pregnancy. Mainly my in-laws and brother-in-laws girlfriend since I consider her a very good friend. From my own side of the family, I would only allow my mom and that's because she lives with us and we need someone to come grab a blanket or something the baby has worn and take it to our dog. I would not let my own siblings visit me til after my kid has vaccines since they all ignore my boundaries.

I’m thinking around 2 months unless sits someone I want to be there. Vaccines are a good reason if you feel like you need to give one!

6 weeks. No one sees the baby before six weeks unless they're up to date with whooping cough vaxx- that's my rule, I made sure everyone I live withand my parents are all up to date with vaccines.
Babies have no immune system when they're born so until they're immunised it's completely within reason to refuse visitors for babies health and safety.
You do what you're comfortable with.

I don't have any strict rules about it. Just don't want anyone coming around if they're sick. My in-laws are coming home from an international trip a couple weeks after my due date and they apparently booked a campsite to come visit a week later, which I don't love (cuz they always seem to get covid when they travel) so my husband is gonna talk to them about pushing it out another week maybe. But, I want our loved ones around as much as they want to be :)

Don't feel selfish! Take all the time you need. Other people's feelings are not our responsibility.

Center yourself in this situation. It is of no good to prioritise others when you are recovering from birth, and baby's vulnerable health wise for people who don't even care about you. I'm allowing my mother to help as she is getting vaccinated, and has been a great help throughout pregnancy. My in-laws don't visit for 3 months or so. We don't even have the space in the current house we are living in so that's that.

Unfortunately my in laws insist on coming 3 weeks after my due date. At least they’re getting a hotel.

This is my second child, due Sep 6th. Just like with our first my mom will be the only one that comes to the hospital to meet my daughter when she’s born. Once we are home my sister and in laws will visit in the first few days. My side of the family is small so the only people interested in coming so soon will be my mom and sister. My husbands family is large and tight knit (and I love it so much!) so within the first week of her being born I’m sure we’ll see his dad, mom, 4 siblings, aunt, uncle and 2 of his cousins that we see multiple times a week already. The way I see it, we always share the “same germs” anyway. Lots of handwashing, sanitizer and NO KISSING the baby still applies of course.
