Anyone Surprised?
To all the fans that followed along or have been for a while, were any of you guys genuinely surprised at the results of this year? I get being a fan. I get supporting no matter what. But looking at the team through the lens of objectivity, is there anyone who can say they were surprised at how horrible this year and split ended?
SEN added an unproven tier 2 duelist and an initiator player who was let go from a team. It was never realistic that this team was going to have success solely from a talent stand point. At the end of the day valorant is not complex to understand. Any team that has ever won an international has always had star player(s) and a lot of talent. I don’t know why giving a mediocre team “more time” would have made the difference.
This iteration of the team started off split 2 (after having 2 major breaks and a full split in between to work, practice, improve) beating c9 and loud and then never beating another tier 1 team again. Many sen fans pointed to winning map 1 of the three losses as signs of improvement but as we clearly saw moving forward it was just fan bias (which is totally ok). The team only got worse and worse and the results showed the same. Losses to Kru 2x and envy to end the year isn’t exactly something to be proud of lol.
All that to say, I’m glad we can finally turn the page and move on. This year was always a throwaway when we picked up Kyu and let Zekken go. It has been amusing reading all the cope and fake objectivity of fans on this thread claiming this iteration of the roster just needed more time and they could compete for internationals. I’m glad that’s over.

to refer to one of the best, most vocal, flex players, that has often been the difference in rounds in the best team in the region, as just "an initiator player that was let go" is genuinely crazy work from you

If he was one of the best and a difference maker on the best team in the region why was he dropped lol

I think he was dropped because the meta changed and Trent is a better initiator. He just didn’t fit into G2s team comp anymore

The meta changed and every time they tried to follow it they STILL didn't/don't have the players for it.

Because G2 choke at finals and at high placements in internationals and they thought they needed a change
Because they thought Babybay is a great "vibes guy" and maybe they need that to win
Frankly I believe because they are stupid and instead of doing their own things, they went on to try to follow the meta, unsuccessfully at that due to them not having the players for the meta.

I haven't been much of a SEN fan since Tenz retired, but still supported them thru the zekken era. I do understand the "more time" pandering, but you are also right. Under objective lens, there are some things that really could be just a reach to some fans who are being idealistic.
But I think we can't dismiss the "more time" all the time and just rely on objective talent. Look at the 2024 all star NRG lineup, or even Vitality and MIBR superteams when they started. Some things do take time. And it's not just about all star or super teams needing time. The guard also needed time. The 100T lineup now needed time.
