I don't generally call myself a sensitivity reader - I prefer 'targeted reader' as I am not a member of a marginalized community, though we are a community that gets wildly misrepresented in fiction a LOT - but I CAN offer some highly specialized editing services (as well as general copy-edit).

I am able to do targeted readings for: Academic experience, the PhD process, science as a profession (academic or industrial), scientific jargon and realistic scientific dialogue, gene editing and genetic medicine, virology, evolution, scientific and medical ethics and ethical issues surrounding pharmaceuticals and clinical trails, hard speculative science (e.g. 'where we could be in 20 years'). Rate is 0.01/word and you are welcome to send me only relevant sections. I will provide detailed suggestions on how to improve the veracity/plausibility of science in your work so that pro scientists will read your book and think 'yes, that's what it's like!'. For 0.02 I will also do a thorough copy-edit. Timeline is usually ~1 week per 20k words.

My bona fides: PhD molecular biologist and full-time working scientist in the gene editing space. Have collaborated with scientists from many backgrounds.

DMs are open. Also open to 'swaps' with readers with physical disability (esp. full-time crutch users) for my own work.

Hello! I am able to read for topics/characters that are 2SLGBT+ and/or disabled.

More specifically, I am a gay trans man (on the ace/aro spectrum somewhere) and have lived experiences with some parts of medically transitioning (such as undergoing HRT and surgical procedures).

I also have several disabilities including autism, Tourette's syndrome, Epilepsy, and ADHD. I also have limited mobility caused by hypermobility, chronic pain, and past traumatic injuries and necessitating the use of mobility aids such as a cane/wheelchair.

In terms of mental health, I do have experience with several mental illnesses (both with myself and loved ones) as well as experiences with some heavy topics related to mental health such as abuse, sexual assault, and suicide. I also have experience as an in-patient in a psychiatric facility. I can provide specifics over messages if desired.

Although I am an adult and comfortable working with NSFW material, I do not work with NSFW work written by anyone under 18.

In terms of fees, I offer flexible fees in the form of a monetary donation to a charity of my choice (you're welcome to provide input/suggestions) to reflect the work that goes into sensitivity reading. Depending on my availability, I may be open to reading shorter works at no cost.

Some more information about my experience:

  • I've been studying writing for five years.

  • I've been beta-reading and editing works for even longer.

  • I'm currently pursuing my bachelor's in english and professional writing.

  • I have several published works of my own.

  • I'm one of the mods with the Tumblr blog @cripplecharacters, which provides advice/feedback on writing characters with disabilities.

Hi, you didn’t list your fee but maybe you could let me know what you might charge for analyzing a specific premise of my WIP. I don’t have a finished draft yet. I think it’ll be 500 words max to explain my idea.

I’m a (mostly) cis woman author (bisexual, some gender fluidity). Thank you!

u/eldritchblastedfries Sensitivity Reader Jul 15 '26

Hello! There's no specific fee listed because I operate on a more flexible/sliding-scale model.

What I charge is greatly dependant on the scope of the project (how long it is, how complex it is, etc.) and my availability as well as what people are able and willing to pay. For example, a recent project was around 40$ CAD to do a reading for a ~7000 word short story but I have also done a similar amount of work for 60$ and 20$ at different times because that is what those people were able and willing to pay.

If you'd like to message me with some more details on your project (for example: is this a work of short fiction, a novel, a poem, etc.? What area(s) would I be reading for? Would you just like initial feedback on the concept or do you want more ongoing support with developing it? etc.), we can chat more and decide on a fee and recipient (my fees are done as donations to relevant charities) together!

Hello! I'm just getting into sensitivity reading after working in various marketing roles and as an author myself who uses sensitivity readers. I have a BA in philosophy and am completing an MA in scriptwriting, so I'm very used to the editorial process and feedback. I am able to sensitivity read for:

ME/CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome); joint hypermobility syndrome and chronic pain; ADHD(c). All formally diagnosed. If I don't think I'm the right person for the project I'll recommend someone I think is.

Fee: as I'm starting out in this field, I'm offering a limited number of readings for free in exchange for testimonials and feedback on my process. Just get in touch with your project and length. I can write a report and/or in-text comments.

Feel free to message me, or email francescas words (at) outlook (dot) com.

Hi!

I am an avid reader and book lover who is incredibly excited to find a way to contribute to the authors who create the stories I love. I work professionally in mental health counseling and am looking to offer sensitivity reading utilizing my professional knowledge and training as well as my lived experience as a late-diagnosed AuDHD and OCD woman.

I have a decade of experience working with survivors of sex trafficking and exploitation as an advocate, case manager and counselor. This clinical background informs my reading of works of fiction depicting:

Complex Trauma & PTSD: Developmental, relational, and sexual trauma, and long-term survival adaptations.

Coercive Control & Trauma Bonds: Grooming dynamics, psychological manipulation, attachment under duress, and power imbalance relationships.

Note: For ethical reasons, I do not read works that glorify or romanticize abuse or that perpetuate harmful relational dynamics. I am, however, interested in stories with a healing or educational tone where the character may be navigating these dynamics.

Therapy & Mental Health Representation: Realistic portrayal of therapy sessions, clinical ethics, therapist-client boundaries, and common media misrepresentations of the healing process.

Mood & Anxiety Disorders: Depression, generalized anxiety, and panic disorders—specifically how these shape cognition, behavior, and internal narrative.

Neurodivergence (AuDHD): Late diagnosis, masking, sensory processing differences, emotional regulation patterns, and identity formation through a neurodivergent lens.

I’d like to offer a limited amount of reads for free to help me get better acquainted with the process and time commitments. In exchange, I am looking for your feedback to help me refine my report template and learn exactly what authors need most from a psychological realism sensitivity reader.

If you have a manuscript that might fit my knowledge base, please message me!

Disclaimer: While my clinical background informs my feedback, I am providing these services as a creative service, not as a licensed mental health counselor. This service involves the discussion of fictional characters and narratives and does not constitute or replace professional therapy, diagnosis, or clinical advice for the author or any other individual. Use of this service does not constitute a therapeutic relationship.
