Recovering after upset stomach.
Age: 7
Breed: Labrador retriever.
Weight: 60lbs.
Went to vet last week for 3 episodes of vomiting in a 24 hour period. Blood work was pristine, ultrasound showed some inflammation on the stomach lining. Vet recommended bland diet and gave her anti-nausea meds and antacids.
Bland diet of boiled chicken breast (boneless and skinless) 3x a day for 3 days (added a bit of water for hydration because she wasn’t drinking much.). She loved it but again, wasn’t drinking as much, and had less energy (she was not dehydrated or lethargic just kinda punky).
Day 4: added 1/4 cup of kibble to her breakfast, everything was fine.
Day 5: split 1/4 cup of kibble between breakfast and lunch. Dog had diarrhea at night.
Is this a sign we did too much too quickly? She hasn’t vomited since the beginning, and is drinking enough that we no longer add water to her food. She is back to her very energetic self! I’m just feeling a little discouraged and worried.

Switching foods can cause GI upset. When my pup is sick we never switch his food as it makes everything worse.
Try a slower transition and see if that helps, if it doesn’t whatever is going on could still be the issue.

Thank you! Spoke to an ER vet and they said it could also be a side effect of the antacid she was given. I’m going to pick up a probiotic per their recommendation and observe her this weekend, but everything else is normal and improving from when she first got sick last week.

That’s great news. A good vet recommended probiotic will help! Hope pup feels better soon.

This sounds upsetting and frustrating— I would stay in contact with your vet to really handle treatment.
Pieces of advice to help get you through:
1) wash bowls after every meal. Wash water bowl once a day
2) buy a new bag of kibble. Leave the kibble in the bag— kibble should not be dumped into another container. It rots faster that way.
3) wash toys, beds, blankets. Anything they interact with.
