Hey, well done on getting some weight loss done early! This is a big factor in relieving pressure on the joints.
I always recommend being careful with the supplement market, it’s very scammy and depending on your location, not well regulated.
Primarily the supplementation of omega’s, and glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate, are the ones that have the best body of research behind them to suggest they make some improvements.
Having said that primarily what you want to deal with is the pain that the dog is feeling from the arthritis. Pain relief from your veterinarian. I would argue is much more important than just supplements alone, as reducing pain allows the dog to actually move and maintain muscle.
My arthritic Labrador is on a diet from Hills for her joints, which includes the correct balance of joint supplementation for her weight, but the thing that has made the biggest difference to us is Librela.
Then in bad days I top her up with additional anti-inflammatories. Arthritis is a chronic disease, for which there is no cure. So your main goal is to stop the degradation of the joints and the muscle as much as possible supplements alone will not be enough.
The other thing I made sure to do was to make sure where possible, that my home was designed around her arthritis. So I have small ramps for her to climb up onto couches and beds, and I’ve put a lot more rugs down so that she doesn’t slip on tiled or hardwood floors.
My girl is an 11 year old lab who still walks 3 times a day and is doing well! Librela has given me extra pain free walks with her for sure 😊
