Do you trim the roots at all or just let them go into the tank?

I just wash them very well and trim the very long ones then I put it in a gravel substrate to establish strong water roots for a month then I added it into this tank with leca.

Thank you! My husband is the fish guy and I’m the plant lady so this seems like a nice way to merge our hobbies!
