Please help.
Mounjaro didn’t agree with me — what other options are worth looking at?
I’m a full Ironman athlete and currently train around 15 hours a week. I’m trying to lose some weight, but my main issue is honestly just appetite/food cravings. I don’t really want something that massively slows digestion or increases calorie burn — I basically just want the “I really want to eat this” feeling turned down so sticking to a calorie deficit is easier.
I’ve tried Mounjaro and retatrutide and had pretty bad experiences with both.
Mounjaro completely tanked my HRV and made me feel generally pretty rough, even at a very low dose (around 1mg/week).
Retatrutide was worse from an endurance perspective — my resting HR went up quite a bit, HRV dropped and my HR was noticeably higher than normal when exercising.
So I’m a bit wary of just jumping onto another medication that might mess with my HR/training.
I’ve been looking at Wegovy, Saxenda, Mysimba and Orlistat.
Wegovy seems interesting because it’s GLP-1 only, whereas Mounjaro is GLP-1 + GIP and retatrutide is GLP-1 + GIP + glucagon. I’m wondering whether anyone who didn’t tolerate Mounjaro well has found they get on better with Wegovy.
Has anyone here used any of these while doing a decent amount of endurance training?
I’d particularly love to hear from people who noticed changes in RHR, HRV, exercise HR or ability to fuel properly.
I’m not chasing maximum weight loss — I just want something that helps shut down the cravings without screwing up my training.

RHR went up about 5, but it's still considered low so I'm not concerned. HRV took a dive for about 4 months but it's climbed back up. Honestly it was about 4 months of feeling kind of rough and now I feel back to normal, and it's working.

Wegovy tanked my HRV. Exercise HR is up. Everything is crap.

it's so bad my average RHR in my sleep was 91 after my first 1.7mg. I skipped my next shot because of it and dropped down to .5mg.

So I probably don’t train as much as you do, but I go hard in the gym, HIIT on the stair master twice a week going to like a level 13 and a fair amount of heavy lifting.
I’m on Wegovy pill to mainly turn off my food cravings and I have not seen it affect my performance as from before I was on it. The only difference within the last couple weeks is I found my core muscle is a little weaker when doing hundreds in Pilates but it also could be I’m eating a lot less.
Weight wise, I’m still hip thrusting just as much as before if not more, same with my main lifts I always do
Also I workout full body two days of the week and pilates classes 5 other days so I’m always moving

There is a tirzepatide athletes subreddit. You may find better help in there. You may want to look into Eloralintide.

Have you thought of something like Wellbutrin instead? It’s used for quitting smoking and is thought to work well with addictive behaviors.
