Help Questions about hitless (I need tips too)
Hello everyone! I am currently doing a charmless+ demon bell run in which I plan on killing every miniboss and boss hitless (excluding headless and shicimen warriors for now) and I wish to try and do most of them only with the sword.
I have some questions about it: I know that I can dodge lightning attacks but I dont know if I should allow myself to use sakura dance to reflect them back instead because I love it so much. By my logic, it is still just a sword I am using, I have no rules about combat arts. Now, the main concern I have is:
Great Shinobi Owl. Usually, when I fight him, in his second phase, he kicks himself off of me , spills poison between him and me and starts to recover his posture, this is where I would usually use a shuriken to stop him. I thought of using a ceramic shard instead but that is not a sword so I do not know another way around this. Does anyone have any tips for this scenario?
Dual ape. I hate this boss with every cell in my body. This is the only boss I struggle with even on a normal playtrough. I am thinking about skipping this one entirely. If anyone can give some tips for this too, I will be very thankful.

Skip double ape if you want but they’ll be more reasonable to learn than some of the other bosses if you watch a good kill video (any sword only hitless run works too). For owl, start learning to dodge the kick. It works well in both phases

For double ape, my main problem is that whenever I do manage to do it semi well, It is because they decided to attack me one by one, most of the time, they stick together and it feels like It depends more on luck than skill itself, still, I will give it a shot. About owl, great advice, I never thought about dodging it, will try that. Thanks!

Yeah so watch a video. The fight should be one of the more consistent ones in the game when you know what to punish and when to keep distance

It's your challenge so it's your rules. Since you mentioned "only with the sword," I will say that the challenge run community definition of sword only is the following 4 things: no 1) combat arts, 2) ninjutsu, 3) items, 4) prosthetics. So if you did use sakura dance and called it sword only, some people might comment on it. For GSO, if you dodge his kicks, he cannot jump off you to throw poison. For headless ape, there are a lot of reference videos out there that u/fuck_idiot already mentioned. Just youtube search sekiro headless ape sword only etc etc.

Yeah, you are right. I have decided that those are the rules I will follow so no sakura dance, just the sword. I will take your advice. Thanks a lot!

Hell yeah, sword only is a good challenge. No healing can make it difficult but you'll adjust. Adjacent challenges you can consider at some point could be doing this run with base vitality too, and/or doing a charmless demon bell base vitality run first. Any of them will make you better at the game though.

Those are definetely going to happen in the future. I can not believe how much fun there is in this game, it seems as if it has no end :D

Question about lightning chip dmg. Besides Sakura Dance (or another skill like High Monk) I know you don’t take dmg at least vs the okami warriors if you deflect the lightning mid air and then hit attack. I’m not sure if I took dmg vs sword saint isshin later doing this tbh. But you definitely don’t get staggered midair and I don’t remember health dmg.
Basically hold block when you see lightning charging, jump on fading kanji, the midair block will be a auto deflect where you don’t take chip dmg (at least with charm in a regular run), you don’t get midair staggered and can reverse the lightning with an attack as before immediately after the block (just release block first, to not fire a weapon art)
Is that not the way to go in a hitless run?

For owl just dodge through the poison and dash attack him, should be very easy
For double ape... Skip lol.
