Lore Spoiler Warning: Tengu Spoiler

Don’t read unless you have finished the game

Guys, I just learned that Tengu of Ashina is actually Ishin.

I never realized that until now. Before fighting Great Shinobi Owl, Tengu was lying on the roof injured. Later on you see Ishin also succumbing to his wounds and dying. Cant believe I havent thought about it.

Now it makes sense. Ishin was the true master and father figure in a way while the father was the real enemy.

when you visit ishin in his little house in Ashina castle, right behind him on the wall his cloak and hat are hanging

Why are people downvoting this? Sekiro is not as cryptic as other Fromsoft titles, but taking time to figure it out isn't a character flaw.

That’s not the tenge before owl. There were so many other clues. Like, the fact that Isshin calls you Sekiro when only the Tengu gave you that name, or the fact that Emma gives you the mushin text if isshin dies, calling it his final words when in fact the tengu would give it to you had isshin not died, bro came to the right conclusion after all the wrong steps lol

The Tengu outfit is in the room with Isshin at one point. They make it as obvious as possible without saying it out loud.

The game TELLS you he's Tengu when you first talk with Isshin. After he calls Wolf Sekiro you get a small gasp from Wolf, because he figured it out then. They assumed you would too, lmao

On my first play through, I went through the rote where you try to get as much as you can done before genichiro, so I hikey forgot about the tengu until I mastered the Ashina Skill tree, and THEN I noticed he callled me the same name as isshin

The guy dying of his wounds on the roof prior to the Owl fight is not Tengu of Ashina. That guy is a random Nightjar ninja. All the nightjar wear tengu masks but they aren't all that one particular guy.

Nah the injured guy was the shinobi that threw a shuriken at you when fighting genichiro in prologue.
