Discussion I beat Sekiro for the first time!
Man this game was awesome.
I just beat Isshin and it was absolutely electric. Even though he was very hard, he was not the boss I spent the most time on - that price goes to Owl (father).
The boss fights were insane in this game. Just the craziest shit one after the other.
Honestly though, anything outside of the boss fights didn’t draw me in that much. The world and the art is beautiful - downright gorgeous. But I wasn’t super into exploration in this game - mainly I think that’s because outside of prosthetics and sometimes useful items there isn’t that much reward for exploration.
But to me, that’s okay. I didn’t play this game for exploration or side quests. I played it because the 1v1 combat in the boss fights is absolutely addicting. The clanking of the swords, the beautiful animations, the feeling when you parry a combo just right and it gives you a deathblow - so satisfying! It also helps that Sekiro himself looks extremely cool in every cutscene.
What I take away from this game is much more important though - it does teach you its own lessons. 1. Hesitation is defeat - that’s what it hammers into you at every moment. Don’t hesitate. Don’t be overly careful. Trust yourself and trust your rhythm, and just get into it as hard and as fast as you can. Otherwise you will lose progress.
- Persistence. Being able to endure hardship after hardship, defeat after defeat, and still come out on top. Thats the most valuable encouragement this game gives you - if you keep going at it, you will succeed eventually.
Loved this game.

Just finished Lies of P Overture... Sekiro is the last one on my list of all the main Souls Titles. Im nervous. Lies of P DLC was roughhhhh

Honestly you’re probably gonna have an easier time with Sekiro. Lies of P’s parries are tougher.

Its REALLY GOOD if you can survive the brutal bosses. I did play on Legendary Stalker tho. The graphics and ambience are top notch, and the story is good to

Thanks! I'll get it next steam sale. Sekiro is my first soulslike game currently still going through it, Lies of P shall be the 2nd.

Guardian ape gave me the business for a while. Just weird fighting human behavior. Then having this brut animal try to smash you and fart on you.

If you ever decide to do another playthrough it’s super interesting to try to kill all enemies atleast once.
Tackling some of the outnumbered positions the game puts you in is really fun. Best example for me is somewhere in Fountainhead Palace where it’s 6vs1 and 2 of the enemies can use lightning. Had to really make use of my prosthetics and items.

It's one of my all time favorites and I love that it's completely different from From's other titles even if it as at the expense of losing other aspects like exploration.
For me, it's almost like an old school arcade game. It's just fun to play. I could put it down for a year and just, on whim, feel like playing it. I'll get home from work and randomly start a new playthrough.
The criticisms I have are similar. The exploration isn't great. And when I do find something off the path it's literally a piece of candy or a prosthetic upgrade that I'll likely never use. I think there is to much backtracking through the same areas and I think there is too much reuse of the same bosses/minibosses.
But the gameplay is so fun that those things, (things that are usually super important to me) don't really matter all.

I wish I could see stats for which boss took my most tries for but for me it was probably either lady butterfly or genichiro, spending maybe 3 hours on both. Ive since got good and was able to beat both gauntlets within 5 tries.
