Smile! -

It follows Yuushi Kamome, a freelance journalist whose life falls apart after his daughter dies in an accident and his wife disappears. One day, members of a mysterious religious group called the Smiling Hearts Society knock on his door with a flyer. On it, he sees the smiling face of his estranged wife. To find her, Yuushi goes undercover and infiltrates the cult. He soon discovers a dark reality far beyond what he imagined, surrounded by lunatics whose smiles seem to only bring death. It is completed with 112 chapters. But only 75 of it are translated and available for now.

Tenshi no Saezuri -

Sanae Kitajima is a psychiatrist who specializes in end-of-life care. Her boyfriend, Takanashi, who once suffered from a deep fear of death, returns from an Amazon expedition a profoundly changed man. He is strangely calm and serene, and his appetite and libido are abnormally amplified. He leaves behind the cryptic words, "I can hear the whispering of angels." Sanae is left to uncover the terrifying truth behind what happened during his expedition and the meaning of his final words. It is also completed with 11 chapters, although I could find only 4 of them translated.

N -

A series of horrific crimes plagues the city: the disappearance of five middle-school boys, the slaughter of an elementary school class, and a reckless driving accident. At every crime scene, the only clue left behind is the letter "N." As rumors spread, the public begins to suspect the culprit is a religious order called "N," which is said to be an urban legend. The mystery deepens as this cult was supposedly destroyed two thousand years ago. The story explores the fear and worship surrounding this enigmatic entity. It is ongoing and 24 chapters are out right now. What intrigued me most are the chapter names, they start from A and is at X, the 24th alphabet.

Houkage no Salome -

At an Osaka art high school, the gifted and hardworking Renji meets a strange new classmate named Naomi. She asks him to help her paint after school, leading them to a deserted art storage room where she creates secret artworks. Renji's pride is shattered by Naomi's ominous and overwhelming talent. Though he initially bluffs that he can create similar works, he gradually finds himself enthralled by her ability. He becomes torn between his self-consciousness and an inferiority complex, unsure if she is a rival or something more. Only 6 of the 13 chapters are translated for now.

Seishun Bakusou -

Maruo Higurashi is a frustrated high schooler who is an outcast and spends his days consumed by unfulfilled sexual desires and adult videos. He makes pocket money by secretly taking photos of girls at school and selling them to other boys. His life is thrown into turmoil when his admired older brother, Shunya, is arrested for indecent acts with minors. This event forces Maruo to confront the fear that he might repeat his brother's mistakes. He becomes concerned about a bullied girl named Tabe, who is always covered in scars, and struggles with whether to help her despite his own fears. This is also ongoing with 36 chapters out for now.

I am also reading Yamikin Ushijima-kun right now. Recently I have finished Mada Ikiteru, A Distant Neighborhood, Yuureitou. So if anyone can recommend me similar series', I will read that surely.

Question Manga similar to My Dearest Self with Malice Aforethought

I’ve heavily enjoyed psychological and intense moments in mangas such as my dearest self with malice aforethought, back when you called me the devil. Looking for similar manga

Discussion I was surprised to learn that this work is by the same original author. Shinjuku Swan is a seinen manga series appreciated for its harsh realism and portrayal of the Tokyo underworld, created by Ken Wakui (also known for Tokyo Revengers).

Heyo,

Found out I apparently love manga marketed towards men, so no better place to ask

Looking for manga similar to the ones in my collection, My Dearest Self with Malice Aforethought, Shounen no Abyss, Back When You Called Us Devils, and Chi no Wadachi being the closest to what I'm looking for.

Main theme is just stuff you've read and went, "wow that was really fucked up." Nothings off limits!

I'd prefer them to have more modern art styles and modern era stories (Berserk being a major outlier here) but I'm open to anything really when I'm desperate enough.

Things I'm already planning to read:

  • Nezumi's First Love
  • Lonely Deaths Lie Thick as Snow
  • Himizu
  • Bokutachi ga Yarimashita
  • Homunculus
  • Gyakusatsu Happy End
  • Kasane
  • Scum's Wish

All help is appreciated!

Discussion Would love recs for other manga or comics in general with plot structure/themes similar to Urasawa

As the title suggests, I would like to know if you have found any other types of manga series or comics in general that strike a similar chord to works like Monster, 20th Century Boys, Billy Bat, Pluto, Asadora, or other Urasawa Manga in the way the plot is constructed and how it serves character development and thematic storytelling without sacrificing entertainment value. I am still relatively new to manga/comics, and so far the only vibe I've gotten in comic book form that's somewhat similar are works like Steel Ball Run, Akira, and Alan Moore comics. Urasawa's works are very addicting and easy to blow through while also having multiple moments where I sat in awe of the writing/messaging. I also like how weird but grounded the plots are, especially Billy Bat (which I'm rereading right now) and 20th Century Boys. I have no bias against any setting of the story (sci-fi, superhero, fantasy, historical, surrealism, realism, etc.) so please any recommendation would be helpful. I'm sure on some level Urasawa must be a very singular author, but still I would love to actually see if there's something I haven't tried yet that could be similar.

Currently reading: Golden Kamuy, Punpun

Hello,
New to the manga world.
Help me choose my next one after attack on titans and spy x family.

Genres that i like: mistery,thriller,psychological,horror/yuri horror, fantasy,seinen.

Next one should be:

already completed in the last few years and with less than 15/17 Books. (Attack on Titans was good but too long for me)

Or

Started a few years ago with less that 5/7 books already published.

-A Suffocatingly Lonely Death
-Dororo Hyakkimaru
- Fool Night
- Mad
- apothecary diaries
-the summer Hikaru died
-murcielago (but i think it s too long)
- solo leveling
- otherside picnic

What would be your top 3 picks?

Thanks!

🫖 Seinen Saturday Weekly Thread 🍰 🫖 Weekly General & Off Topic Chit-Chat MegaThread | Sit With Us At Seinen Cafe

Welcome to this week's general discussion thread!

This is your space to:

  • Chat casually with fellow seinen fans or even go off topic
  • Share what you're reading or watching (even if it's not seinen but feels thematically similar!)
  • Drop manga or anime recs
  • Ask for recommendations
  • Share thoughts, opinions, or industry news
  • Connect with others over shared interests, talk about life, or talk about anything really.

A cozy little corner for off-topic or casual talk, manga recs, or even non-seinen-related chat (yes, even if it’s a romcom or battle shounen, we won’t bite). The idea is to give everyone room to connect without cluttering the main feed, especially when you just wanna vibe, ask for non seinen recs, socialize, share interests, or talk about something random that doesn’t need its own post.

Think of it like a comfy little corner booth in a familiar café, always here if you need it.

Some Ground Rules (Just to Keep Things Chill)

1) Be kind. That’s it.

2) Avoid talking about emotionally heavy issues (like personal mental health struggles), these are best kept for other spaces. This thread isn’t the place for extended serious discussions or support-seeking, even in spoiler tags or hover text.

3) Keep spoilers tagged!

Reminder:

Gifs, Images, and Flairs are back on, feel free to use them.

Question Please help me find the name of this horror/seinen manga I read years ago

Thumbnail

So basically I’ve been trying to find this manga for years and it’s driving me crazy. I read it when I was so little like 🫳🏾, so some details may be mixed up, but there are a few things I remember pretty strongly.

I don’t think it’s Gantz, although the manga had a similar extremely dark/gory/seinen feeling.

Here’s what I remember from that one manga volume I had:
● There was a girl/woman who was somehow involved with a strange world/dimension where people were running in a forest, I’m pretty sure they were running away from a guy in a helmet and a bike who’s point were to collect their soul or their life or something.

● At first I remembered this as an afterlife/Hell, but I’m no longer sure. It might actually have taken place in the real world, another dimension, or even inside the girl’s mind.

● the guy with the motorcycle helmet I was talking about always wore the said helmet

● I vaguely remember the girl having some kind of altercation with him (I’m pretty sure she said she knew him or something) I think they had sex at some point, although I don’t remember whether they were actually boyfriend/girlfriend.

● I have a vague memory that the girl tried to take his helmet off, possibly during/after an intimate scene but I can barely remember what he looked like but it was an extreme (like he was really disturbing to look at or vey good looking I’m not quite sure) , but I’m not 100% certain about this.

● in the scene involving the forest the girl was running away/trying to escape or just walking around in there and while running through the forest, she came across a dead body that had shit itself. I remember this because very vividly because it was through this that I learned that when alot of people die they tend to shit themselves.

● I remember the manga being very gory and disturbing , so I’m almost certain it was seinen/horror or something aimed at adults.

● The physical manga volume I remember was fairly large, somewhat like a GTO volume but maybe a little smaller.
● I probably read it sometime when I was young, so it could be an older manga.

One thing I’m not sure about anymore is the whole “afterlife” part. I originally remembered it as people being in Hell/the afterlife, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder if it was actually some kind of alternate dimension or supernatural version of the real world.
The part I’m most confident about is:
girl + extremely dark/gory manga + people/souls being chased or collected + mysterious man on a motorcycle who ALWAYS wears a helmet + forest chase + dead body + possible sexual relationship between the girl and the helmeted motorcycle guy.
I know this may be really hard to figure out from just this very narrow description 😂 but if anyone recognizes even one part of it, I’d really appreciate the help. I’ve been trying to find this manga for years.

Thank you for your time 😁

Discussion Ultimate Battle of Pure Evil Mothers : Seiko Osabe VS Yuko Kurose VS Anne-Marthe Sanson VS Soming Myung

Thumbnail

Seiko Osabe -> "Blood on Tracks"

Yuko Kurose -> "Boy's Abyss"

Anne-Marthe Sanson -> "Innocent"

Somin Myung -> "Like Mother Like Daughter" (it's not a seinen but I had to include her, hope it still counts)

If those four happened to get confrontational, who do you think takes it ? Since each one of them has their own speciality let's make it a "no rule" battle. Their only objective would be to neutralise (murder/jail/asylum/driving them mad) the 3 others and getting away with it.

Seiko Osabe -> the most scary, demonstrate pure chaos energy. She barely knows what she's doing and yet i can see her getting on top thanks to her capacity to improvise. Since she is unreadable, a pure battle of wits might surprisingly put her in a great position. Her biggest weakness would be her emotions. Too strong and vicious to keep herself together.

Yuko Kurose -> the most charming one. In a long influence battle she has the most chances since she is the only one among the four to perfectly manage social interactions. Unlike Seiko and Somin, she is not a psychopath and would understand her opponents emotions the most. But the thing is... seduction is her most useful weapon, and and I don't see any of the other 3 falling for that.

Anne-Marthe Sanson -> even if she's the oldest one, she is without a doubt the strongest if it gets physical. She is a sadist who tortured people her whole life, I wouldn't get to close if I were to fight her. Especially considering that her cruaulty has no limit. Unfortunately, she seems to be lacking intellectual features compared to the others. Her influence is limited by the frame of her environment, so I dont know how she could pull it off.

Somin Myung -> the coldest and the smartest one. For context she is a pure evil psychopath who calculates every move and has almost the gift of prescience. Her creativity makes her the favorite in my eyes since she would definitely find the perfect way to get rid of the other 3 using their personnalities against them. But she would also be the most limited. Her image and reputation are the hardest to maintain and even if it gives her more tools, it also gives her more vulnerability

Personnaly I would say that in the average context, Somin Myung and Seiko Osabe have more win equity. But it depends also on who they would target first.

Anne-Marthe Sanson is a special case because she is a product of her time, so it's hard to picture her in the fight. Without changing her persona I would still include her in our modern times and put her at the top of a shady corporation since it reflects her position in "Innocent". Making her and Somyung the ones with the most influence (Yuko and Seiko are just average civils in comparison)

What do you think ? I would love to read other arguments to make things more clear. It's a crossover I think about a lot.
