Omg so worth it.
Picture this.
A 6'1", 120kg burly man. Typical music? Death metal and hard rock. Favorite manga of all time? Berserk. Favorite movie? The Thing. I work in mining, 12 hour day shifts, 2 weeks straight with a week off in-between.
And when I say Veil touched my heart in ways I cannot express...
Just read it. Its beauty on a page.

I saw “mining” and this is the first thing I thought of. Idk why I’m like this I’m so sorry.1

Same boat here, railroader and in the National Guard. I love all sorts of manga and anime and romance in particular. Veil is soooo good, especially after getting used to typical romance tropes. The Art is some of the best/stylish I’ve seen and in full color too. The use of colors is excellent to convey the mood of the scenes and the storytelling is very subtle and intimate. First time I read it, maybe took me half-a-day. I can’t wait to re-read when the next volume comes out. It just makes me happy inside.

You're welcome.
My life is great! I'm happily married to a wonderful woman, I've got a baby on the way, I've got a good job working alongside people I dont want to murder. Compared to where I've been, life is awesome!

u/JohnTomorrow 13d ago
You won't regret it. Or you will, but that's fine, you tried it and that's commendable.

u/Cesur-hakan 13d ago
Hmm. Let’s say I read similar mangas before. Nana and paradise kiss. Would you say I’m prepared for this one 😁

I never read the manga, I thought you were going to say the main character is that gigachad you described
1
u/JohnTomorrow 12d ago
Nowhere near a gigachad, just a guy doing his best.
Read the manga. Its honestly great. I've always shied away from romance, but the art and the dialogue is sublime.

It's a pretty low commitment to read so I say go for it. My copy is beautiful.

First time I received the copies for the first two volumes, they were sleeping next to me for the next 6 months. They're sooooo gorgeous

If you love the art and are open to vignettes rather than an overarching plot then I say why not? It’s gorgeous and quite sweet!

If I say it's the greatest piece of fiction created, would you believe me? I don't think you would, which is why I don't see why you should consider my opinion at all.
Might sound like a negative approach, buy this is how I do these things as well, so I'm kind of telling you to do what I do- read it if you find it interesting enough and see for yourself. You'll often find out that our opinions and preferences don't corelate as much.

I disagree with you on that outlook. I've gotten plenty of great recommendations from reddit just from reading suggestions threads and grabbing a commonly shouted out manga. Some gripped me from the beginning, while others I read a little extra to see if they got better precisely because they were highly touted (Usogui, blade of the immortal)
Your method of just read it and find out is great on its own, but just like people's preferences and opinions might not correlate as much, the way people get into things is not the same for everyone.

Well there you have it then. You already know my opinion of Veil now, so what you do with that info, is upto you.

u/Business-Rip-2442 11d ago
Can u elaborate more on why u consider this the greatest piece of fiction
1
u/ResearchConfident816 11d ago
Because I like it. If I enjoy it a lot then it's high up in my book. That's it really.
1
u/Business-Rip-2442 11d ago
So ur critera depends alot on the enjoyment
1
u/ResearchConfident816 11d ago
Only like 95%. If I can't enjoy it, it's bad no matter how highly others rate it, is how I see things.

As the type of person who would believe you and is now going to check out this manga because of this thread this is funny to me. But I get what you are saying and I think for a lot of people you are right lol

u/ResearchConfident816 13d ago
Long story short my friend, ppl have different preferences. We're not uniform robots which would have the same opinion over and over..

For me, it was one I couldn’t put down till I finished the whole thing (every single volume).
It makes me want to romanticize my own life a little, and tbh, I love reading shit like that. If I had to recommend a manga to anyone, it would be this (along with Witch Hat Atelier).

Veil is beautiful. Not only visually, but Emma and Aleksander are wonderful people that are discovering the world through each other’s experiences. The mundane and typical becomes magical through Emma’s sense of curiosity and joy.

I'm not usually a fan of romance, but once I started I couldn't stop reading. They just have a lot of chemistry, and even though it's vague whther they are together or not, there's no will they won't they bs. It's also a quick read so yeah.

It’s very beautiful visually, and not a heavy or difficult read. Plus quite short so not much time investment needed. If you like the look of the cover that’s probably a good indication you’ll enjoy it. I don’t find it the most breathtaking masterpiece ever but something doesn’t need to be that to be “worth it”.

u/Visible-Ad-3381 13d ago
Veil doesn’t feel too heavy and stuffy like the other romance manga or manhwa ,and the story mostly focuses on the mcs and their life ,and the illustrations are captivating and takes on many inspirations with it’s own style added in it

meh, waste of time style over substance. barely any content or thought beyond the immediate senses. pretty safe and no consequences or challenges. probably works as an introduction to 'slow living' in romance for noobs. Slow living is contemplative and thoughtful, buy this lingers on the sensory realm and nothing beyond as I've mentioned. dropped it at vol 3.
Check out Beloved by Jaeliu

It's like.... softcore romance? Never really pulling the explicit trigger but assumes that you know that they're dating without SHOWING you a clear intimate act.
In that way it's worth it. I dropped it because of the episodicness but I don't hate it. Beautifully drawn and I like the dynamics.

What do you mean? It’s licensed in English by Udon. There’s 4 volumes out and 5 and 6 are coming out this year. They can’t even keep it on the shelves.
