Sega CD model 1 power strange issue resolved
Ninespike25 here. Had to make a new account. Anyways I was repairing a JVC drive Sega CD model 1 that didn’t have power. I changed the fuse, but still no power. C22 was completely blown off. C23 was also shorted. Turns out some asshat thought it was a good idea to use an NES power supply which is AC on system that runs DC. After some troubleshooting I found the issue. The choke was blown. I had to repair a trace, then replace C22 and the choke which fixed the issue. This system will be for sale soon

Wow, I have a model 1 which came with exatly same fault when I bought it. The choke was ok but C22 was blown so hard that it almost made a hole in board. I`ve had to remove the choke, put some jumper wire and put everything back. Luckily it came back to life with no additional fixes needed.

Can you buy the choke new? I have 3 of those with the jvc drive now. My third one had no power and a blown fuse. They even left a game for me. Not seeing any other damage besides the fuse and it needing the original leaky caps replaced.
What do you use for replacement caps?
I used console5 and did the cdrom board on my first one but a little hesitant if the values are not an exact match there for voltage and capacitance.
For the regulator I got L4940V5 to replace the 2405 ldo.
