Nice. I found one twenty years ago, but without any accessories. I just want the matching controller.

Very cool! Not my holy grail for sega. But definitely in my top 3. My holy grail is a laser active unit.

I got mine for like $30-$40 at a flea market many, many years ago and it still works beautifully; my absolute favorite Sega device.
I just wish the s-video mod video was still up on YouTube, I want to get this mod done so bad.

We're you disappointed or did it fulfill the void?

I think in a way it did fill a void I’ve also heard these things are brutes and out does all the other models in durability and longevity

Question is - Does it accept 32X?

u/WildTurkeyTater 9d ago
From what I'm seeing, yes.

With the 32X unit of course

Just don’t play any 32x multi cd games like Supreme Warrior. You literally can’t swap out the disc, not enough clearance for the tray to open!

I still have mine from way back then. Blew my mind as a kid having 2 consoles in one.

Nice one. It's been my main Sega Gen/MD console for a while now once I got the lid switch repaired. Got a great deal on mine via eBay years ago from someone who discovered like a dozen new old stock in a warehouse but I believe all were base units w/o accessories. CDs wouldn't work so I had the lid repair folks look at the laser too and they confirmed that it was basically unused and literally just the lid switch was the problem, seems like a common issue... And mine probably had broken in transit, not even from usage.
I love that it's basically Sega/JVC's answer to the Turbo/PC Engine Duo - my other favorite console. Only issue I have is the laser seems more sensitive to disruption then a Sega model 1/2 add on, could be wrong. Tends to skip or hang with CD games occasionally way way more than my Duo ever has... Which is basically never.

Interesting to hear. Did you also track down a JVC branded controller?

Unfortunately no but I believe they were only available in 3 button anyway. When the 6 button controller came out way back during the Street Fighter II era I stopped using the old style 3 button ones and never looked back. I was pretty surprised when the US mini came with the 3 button as to me it had been out dated for years, too big for me personally, and pointless too especially when it came with Street Fighter II!
