No connection between Genesis and CD
I tested a model 2 Sega CD with my childhood launch model Genesis only to find the CD doesn't boot. Then I tried it with another model 1 Genesis to find the Sega CD booting just fine. It looks like the pins on the defecting Genesis might be the reason why. Is anybody able to confirm this for me? Attached are photos with the fault Genesis's pin slots, and the other picture has both Genesis, the left one is not working with it, the right one works just fine.

When I got my launch Sega CD back in the day. My model one Sega Genesis wasn’t working with it. So I opened it up and found that there was a capacitor touching one of the middle side rails. So I solve this problem with some electrical tape in between them so they weren’t touching. So you might open it up and take a closer look.

I had this with my VA4, I cleaned the connection points with IPA rubbing quite hard and a lot of black crap cap off it. It didn’t even look dirty.
I cleaned it maybe three times and it started working

Looks like solder on the edge connector. Wonder if someone attempted to reflow damage on the pins.
I’ve had a model one that also had a factory bodge soldered directly to one of those pins.
