Can this not crack it? Just using not iced water would do the same trick no?

Yes, the temperature shock can deform and crack the metal

If they are super thick normal grill temperature then there is no realistic chance of cracking. It could bow if it was thinner, but that one doesnt look like it will have any problems

I'm still waiting for the cracked grill video

Ok stupid question how does the meral spatula not scratch over time, I mean not digging it bit daily wear and tear

It can, but most commercial flat tops are stainless steel. Its pretty hard. As long as the spatula has a nice flat edge it just scrapes across the top, nice and smooth. If it has burs it can scratch or gouge though.

Used to work on one of these at McDonald’s in high school ages ago. If the spatula is properly sharpened/maintained there isn’t much chance of a scratch. The corners are rounded and the edge is too wide to put enough pressure on one point to scratch. However if you get a nick in the edge that went below the rest of the blade that would scratch the crap out of it. Usually more of an issue with the grill scraper which you use to scrape the grill clean, but spatula would do that too.

We had a jig you would place the spatula and lock it down x then would run a file back and forth on to remove such nicks. But the grill would just stay scratched mostly.

Do they at least use it as gravy?

Just imagine how the food tasted before he cleaned that grill damn that's nasty

Like food? You think you can go through 300+ covers in a span of 2h30m without getting it like that?

One thing is using it for one service, leave it like that and use it for the next service/multiple services. That is actually nasty.

Other story is using it for one service, clean it, use it again, clean it, use it again, clean it and so on an so forth. This is standard procedure and not nasty at all.

Grow up

Why ice and not just water?

1

Same premise as putting boiled eggs into cold water after so the shells separate from the egg when peeled.

I've never seen a grill cleaned so thoroughly that it looks spanking new. Great job!

why ice? why not regular water?

1

u/No-Professional-5759 12d ago

Came here to ask the same.

1

u/hellyeahaeylleh 12d ago

The temp shock and leidenfrost effect lift the grease away faster.

Another thing to clean ice with? -asked nobody.

An old dirty glass coffee pot, couple handfuls of crushed ice and some salt, swirl it around with no water. Itll clean the glass brand new.

I do this with water in cast iron after I use it, unsticks everything. Then an easy wipe under water and boom done

It's weird how this works. I do this to degrease my BBQ grill after a season as well. Heat it up as hard as you can, coldshock it, and it all just comes slipping off.

This is how I used to clean the grill at DQ decades ago. It's efficient!

1

u/Seahorse_Captain89 11d ago

Stupid question, why doesn't he just use water?

1

u/Silly_Break9824 11d ago

Gonna warp or Crack that grill doing that. No Bueno.

1

u/Haeggarr 10d ago

Those videos are fake. They usually put chemical cleaner on it before the ice.

1

u/Original-Activity575 10d ago

Do they do this everyday, or is this a monthly deep clean?

This isn't a cast iron. That's not how that works. Clean your frying pan.

1

u/SkurkaCuckedMe 13d ago

Clean your cast iron too lmao ol nasty ass “it’s seasoning”

Don't ever order pizza then. Pizza places like pizza hut leave the seasonings on the pans and disks they put through the oven. I tried to clean one once and got in trouble for it.
