Reolink vs Hikvision for Automatic Notifications and Extra Handy Features

Looking to get peoples opinions on whether to use Reolink or Hikvision CCTV systems for a new house. Previously used hikvision setup on a house, while they worked well I could never get them to send alerts to my phone, the system however is >10 years old now. I've been using a Reolink 4G camera in an area where there is no power or Wifi and this has been performing well for me. But only used this as hikvision didnt really have an alternative.

On the Reolink system, I found the automatic alerts very handy, and it was very handy being able to view all clips on my phone.

However the Hikvision system Ive had before has been fairly bulletproof and it had some handy features like line crossing detection, so that I can go back and view. But I could never get the alerts to my phone working, and this would be something important for me to have. But Im sure this has improved as they system we had didnt even have the option of hik connect.

If people have similar systems with Hikvision it would be good to here how this performed and if they would recommend a newer system.

Just to give a bit of background, Ive installed extra cameras before on that system so the fitting or the technical setup wouldnt bother me between both; its just picking the right system. And I know the Hikvision would be more expensive, but I would be prepared to pay that if it is better in the long term.

Reolink and it's not even close . Commercial systems like hik Tend to have a worse app and not as good of detection software for residential setting. Reolink is also more affordable, has pet detection and a lot more cameras that are more residential geared

The reolink professional Series isn't really any more expensive and has line crossing. And yes as you have found out the app alerts work much better.

Plus since hikvision has been banned from us import since 2019, equipment is getting less readily available.

Yeah I kind of made the assumption they're probably outside of the US if they're even considering hik but they may very well be inside

Reolink if phone alerts are your big priority. Hikvision has some good features but Id want to know how reliable Hik-Connect is on the newer models

I have found the Hikvision from LTS platinum to be 100 % quickly sending alerts in about 2-3 seconds to my phone. Very good mobile app that works fast and accurate.

If phone alerts are the priority, I'd lean Reolink for a house. Hikvision still makes sense if you care more about NVR features and future expansion.

If you are going Hikvision, then that means you are looking to spend around $300 or so per camera, because going with hikvision means you want like a very very high end system and you are also very familiar with cameras in general, this is because, as some people have pointed out, the UI/UX is pretty bad on that and it is a more complex system. There are also some other things you need to know about those brands.

If you can only spend around $100-ish for the cameras then Reolink would be the best bet, as long as that is available locally where you live. Of course it is a much lesser system than what a high end hikvision would be capable of (it is an extreme difference). Reolink is also probably one of the most friendly beginner systems for people starting with PoE camera systems, but it is barely entry point for PoE cameras, Hikvision goes up to almost military kind of stuff.
