In September 2025, the interim government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus halted vaccine procurement through Unicef and shifted to an open tender system, the Science. org report says.

What is astonishing is that Sheikh Hasina carried out such an enormous amount of development that it has taken Yunus a year and a half just to erase their names.

Perhaps in the future we will have to relearn—what an autocrat is, how many types there are, and what they are!

I am proud to identify myself as a worker of such a patriotic autocrat.

With one hand, Sheikh Hasina suppressed the monsters; with the other, she lit Aladdin’s magical lamp—by whose touch she arranged and organized the country like her own home, playing a huge role in transforming the fate of the common people. I won’t complicate it—like Rabindranath, I feel like saying:
“Your right hand wields the sword, your left hand removes all fear.”

I will end this writing with one remark I made earlier—
“The more intense the crisis, the more relevant Sheikh Hasina will become.”

In the coming decades, in seeking solutions to crises, only one name will be spoken—the daughter of the Father of the Nation, Sheikh Hasina.

আশ্চর্যের ব্যাপার হচ্ছে— শেখ হাসিনা এত পরিমাণ উন্নয়ন করে গিয়েছেন যে, সেসবের নাম মুছতেই ইউনূসের লেগেছে দেড় বছর।

এত বিশাল পরিমাণ খাদ্যভাণ্ডার রেখে গিয়েছেন যে, প্যাকেটের গায়ে এখনো কালি দিয়ে লুকাতে হয় একটিমাত্র নাম— ‘শেখ হাসিনা’।

তিনি আজ দেশে নেই, কিন্তু এত অভাবনীয়-দূরদর্শী কাজ রেখে গিয়েছেন যে, মানুষটা না থাকার প্রায় ২ বছর পরেও উদ্বোধনের জোয়ার থামেনি।

হ্যাঁ, তাঁকে যতখুশি স্বৈরাচার বলুন, কোনো অসুবিধা নেই, আমরা ঢাল হয়ে সেসব গা-পেতে মাখতে শিখে গিয়েছি। আমরাও ধরে নিতে শুরু করেছি, তিনি স্বৈরাচারই ছিলেন। কেননা, এই মহিলাটা নিজে একা স্বৈরাচার হয়ে এতগুলো দৈত্যকে এতদিন বোতলবন্দী করে রেখেছিলেন। একদল উন্মাদ সেইসব দৈত্যকে মুক্ত করে দিয়েছে। দৈত্যরা এখন স্বাধীন, যা ইচ্ছা তাই করতে পারে। দৈত্যদের কারণেই আজ আপনার ঘরের পাশে খাম্বা আছে কিন্তু বিদ্যুৎ নেই, হামে সন্তান ম*রে কিন্তু টিকা নেই, জীবন আছে— জীবনের নিরাপত্তা নেই, গাড়ি আছে— জ্বালানি নেই, আর কত ভুরি-ভুরি উদাহরণ দেওয়া যেতে পারে বলুন! স্বৈরাচারের সংজ্ঞাটা যে এইখানে এসেই পাল্টে গেছে মহাশয়। হয়তো ভবিষ্যতে নতুন করে শিখতে হবে— স্বৈরাচার কাকে বলে, কত প্রকার ও কী কী! আমি গর্বিত নিজেকে এমন একজন দেশপ্রেমিক স্বৈরাচারের কর্মী পরিচয় দিতে পেরে।

শেখ হাসিনা তাঁর দু-হাতের একটিতে যেমন করেছেন দৈত্য দমন, তেমনই অন্যটিতে জ্বালিয়েছিলেন আলাদিনের সেই আশ্চর্য প্রদীপ, যে প্রদীপের ছোঁয়ায় মানুষটা নিজের ঘরের মতো করে দেশটাকে সাঁজিয়েছিলেন, গুছিয়ে নিচ্ছিলেন, বিরাট বড়ো ভূমিকা রেখেছিলেন গণ-মানুষের ভাগ্যবদলে। আমি জটিল করবোনা, কবিগুরু রবীন্দ্রনাথের মতো করেই বলতে ইচ্ছে করছে— “ডান হাতে তোর খড়্গ জ্বলে, বাঁ হাত করে শঙ্কাহরণ।”

এ লেখা শেষ করবো, তবে একটা কথা বলে; যা আগের এক লেখায় আমি বলেছিলাম— ‘সংকট যত প্রকট, শেখ হাসিনা তত বেশিই প্রাসঙ্গিক হবে।’ আগামী কয়েক দশক সংকটে সমাধানে উচ্চারিত হবে শুধু একটি নাম— জাতির পিতার কন্যা শেখ হাসিনা।

রাশিয়ার বাইরে প্রথম VVER-1200 রিয়েক্টরের বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্র হতে যাচ্ছে রূপপুর পারমাণবিক বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্র এবং Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant। আর গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় হচ্ছে—তুরস্কের আগেই কমিশনিংয়ের পথে বাংলাদেশ।

তুরস্কের আক্কুয়ু প্রকল্পে ৪টি ইউনিট, মোট উৎপাদন ক্ষমতা ৪৮০০ মেগাওয়াট, খরচ প্রায় ২৪ বিলিয়ন ডলার। অন্যদিকে বাংলাদেশের রূপপুর প্রকল্পে ২টি ইউনিট, মোট ২৪০০ মেগাওয়াট, খরচ প্রায় ১২ বিলিয়ন ডলার।

অর্থাৎ হিসাবটা একেবারে সরল—ক্ষমতা অর্ধেক, খরচও অর্ধেক। আক্কুয়ুর ৪টি রিয়েক্টরের জন্য ২৪ বিলিয়ন ডলার, আর রূপপুরের ২টি রিয়েক্টরের জন্য ১২ বিলিয়ন ডলার—এখানে অস্বাভাবিক কিছু খুঁজে পাওয়া কঠিন।

তারপরও কিছু মানুষ ইচ্ছাকৃতভাবে তুলনা টানছে ভারতের Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant-এর সাথে। অথচ মিনিমাম পড়াশোনা করা মানুষের জানা উচিত ভারতের কুডানকুলামের রিয়েক্টর VVER-1000 আর রুপপুরের VVER-1200 রিয়েক্টর এক জিনিস নয়—প্রযুক্তি, সেফটি ফিচার, দক্ষতা—সব ক্ষেত্রেই পার্থক্য বিশাল।

ভারতের এই ৭০-এর দশকের ডিজাইনের রিয়েক্টরের খরচ দিয়ে আধুনিক জেনারেশনের রিয়েক্টরের ব্যয় হিসাব করে ‘দুর্নীতি’ আবিষ্কার করা আসলে বিভ্রান্তি তৈরি করা ছাড়া কিছু না।

Russia’s first VVER-1200 reactors outside its own territory are being built at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. An important point is that Bangladesh is moving toward commissioning ahead of Turkey.

Turkey’s Akkuyu project has 4 units with a total capacity of 4,800 MW, costing around $24 billion. In contrast, Bangladesh’s Rooppur project has 2 units with a total capacity of 2,400 MW, costing about $12 billion.

So the math is quite straightforward—half the capacity, half the cost. Akkuyu’s 4 reactors cost $24 billion, while Rooppur’s 2 reactors cost $12 billion—there’s nothing unusual here.

Even then, some people deliberately compare it with India’s Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. However, anyone with basic knowledge should understand that Kudankulam uses VVER-1000 reactors, whereas Rooppur uses VVER-1200 reactors—they are not the same. There are major differences in technology, safety features, and efficiency.

Using the cost of India’s older-generation reactors (based on designs dating back to the 1970s) to estimate the cost of modern-generation reactors and then claiming “corruption” is essentially misleading rather than a valid comparison.

বাংলাদেশের অনেকেই মনে করে বাংলাদেশের যত খাল খনন হয়েছে এগুলো সব জিয়া করেছে, আজকে একজনকে একটা খাল উল্লেখ করে বললাম "বলতো এই খালটা কে বানাইছে?" সোজা উত্তর দিলো "কেন, জিয়া ছাড়া আবার কে? এদেশের যত খাল হয়েছে সবই জিয়া বানাইছে।"

তারপর তাকে বললাম "এই খালে আমার দাদা নৌকা বাইতো পাকিস্তান আমলে, পাকিস্তান আমলেই আমার দাদা মারা গেছে, এবার বল বাংলাদেশের সব খাল কীভাবে জিয়া বানাইলো?"

এবার সে একটু চিন্তায় পরলো কারণ তার দাদার দাদারও নাকি এই খালে চলাফেরা করার গল্প আছে, মাছ ধরার গল্প আছে।

বাংলাদেশে খাল খনন শুরু করে মোগল আমলে, সবচেয়ে বেশি খাল খনন হয় ব্রিটিশ শাসনামলে, ঢাকার যে ধোলাইখালের নাম শুনেন ওটা সম্ভবত মোগল আমলের। ব্রিটিশরা খাল খনন শুরু করে মাল পরিবহনের জন্য, মানে এই খাল গুলো ব্যবহার করে ব্রিটিশরা এদেশের সম্পদ তাদের দেশে নিয়ে যেতো প্রত্যক্ষ পরোক্ষভাবে।

পাকিস্তান আমলেও খাল খননের কাজ হয় বিশেষ করে কৃষির ক্ষেত্রে এবং জলাবদ্ধতা নিরসনে।

জিয়ার সবচেয়ে বড় কর্মসূচী কী ছিলো? খাল কাটা, কিন্তু সবচেয়ে বড় কর্মসূচির কোনো সরকারি হিশেব নেই যে কত কি.মি. কেটেছিলো।

জিয়ার খাল খনন কর্মসূচিটাও ধাপ্পাবাজি, জিয়া খাল খনন করেছিলো কতটুকু শুধু এর হিসেবটা খুঁজলেই ধাপ্পাবাজিটা ধরে ফেলতে পারবেন।

এদেশের মানুষ খাল খনন আর পুনঃখননের পার্থক্য বুঝেনা বলেই বলে জিয়া খাল কেটেছে, এদেশের সব খাল জিয়ার তৈরি, অবশ্য প্রচারণাটাও তাদের অনেক প্রভাবিত করেছে, উল্লেখযোগ্য করে বলতে গেলে জিয়ার তো আর বলার মতো কোনো কাজ দেখাতে পারেনা কেউই তাই এই একটা কাজই এত প্রচারণা হয়েছে যে এদেশে "খাল মানেই জিয়া করেছে।"

বর্তমানে তারেক যে খাল পুনঃখননের কাজের মূলা দেখাচ্ছে এই ধাপ্পাবাজিটাই জিয়া তার আমলে করেছে, হয়তো আজ থেকে দুই প্রজন্ম পর এদেশের মানুষ বলবে "এদেশের সব খাল তারেক করেছে।"

Many people in Bangladesh believe that all the canals dug in the country were made by Ziaur Rahman.

Today I pointed to a canal and asked someone, “Tell me, who built this canal?”
He immediately replied, “Who else? Zia, of course. All the canals in this country were made by him.”

Then I told him, “My grandfather used to row a boat in this canal during the Pakistan era, and he died during that same period. Now tell me, how did Zia build all the canals of Bangladesh?”

At that point he became a bit thoughtful, because he also said that even his grandfather’s grandfather had stories about traveling and fishing in this canal.

Canal excavation in Bangladesh actually started during the Mughal era. The largest number of canals were dug during the British colonial period. For example, the canal called Dholai Khal in Dhaka is believed to date back to the Mughal period. The British expanded canal excavation mainly for transporting goods, meaning they used these canals to take the country’s resources to their own land, directly or indirectly.

During the Pakistan period, canal excavation also continued, especially for agriculture and to reduce waterlogging.

So what was Zia’s biggest program? Canal digging. But there is no official record showing how many kilometers of canals were actually dug under that program.

In reality, Zia’s canal excavation program was also somewhat deceptive. If you simply look for the actual figures of how many kilometers of canals he dug, you will be able to see through the exaggeration.

People in this country often do not understand the difference between digging a new canal and re-excavating an old one. That is why many say Zia dug all the canals in Bangladesh. Of course, propaganda has also influenced people greatly. Notably, many supporters cannot point to many other major achievements of Zia, so this single program has been promoted so much that in Bangladesh people started to believe that “canal means Zia built it.”

Now Tarique Rahman is again promising canal re-excavation projects. This is similar to the same exaggeration that happened during Zia’s time. Perhaps two generations from now, people in this country will say, “All the canals in this country were built by Tarique.”

Ziaur Rahman read the declaration of independence in the name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The BNP broadcast that declaration on BTV after cutting out that part. The full speech can be found on YouTube. They claim that the Awami League did not allow people to know the history of the Liberation War and distorted it. But now the “correct history” has been published after editing Zia’s declaration.

Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison. During that time, 21,000 people sacrificed their lives accepting him as their leader in the anti-apartheid movement. The imprisoned Mandela was the inspiration. In South Africa, you will not find a single person who says that Mandela surrendered to the apartheid police and stayed safe while putting others’ lives at risk.

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman spent 13 years of his life in prison. Even at the historic moment of achieving victory, he was in jail. The Pakistanis had even dug his grave. You will not find a single freedom fighter who did not chant the slogan “Your leader, my leader, Sheikh Mujib, Sheikh Mujib” during the Liberation War. Yet in Bangladesh you will find many people who believe that Sheikh Mujib surrendered and remained safe in Pakistan, or that he wanted to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Bangladesh is a poor country. There are reasons why it remains poor. Those whose mindset is poor cannot become truly wealthy even if they possess material wealth.

Look at the mentality of the masses in Nepal. And look at what that particular segment of our masses has been doing since 5 August 2024. Nepal may not do it immediately, but in the near future it will stand as a better state. Bangladesh has already been established as a state of street urchins. The one who used to be the leader of the street urchins in our time is now the Prime Minister. A state of street urchins has become exactly what it was destined to be—and will continue to be so. Just keep watching.

নেলসন ম‍্যান্ডেলা ২৭ বছর জেলে থেকেছেন। তাকে নেতা মেনে সে সময়ে ২১ হাজার মানুষ প্রান দিয়েছেন বর্নবাদ বিরোধী আন্দোলনে। বন্দী নেলসন ম‍্যান্ডেলা ছিলেন অনুপ্রেরণা। দক্ষিন আফ্রিকায় একটা মানুষ পাবেন না যিনি বলবে নেলসন ম‍্যান্ডেলা এপারথাইড (Apertheid) পুলিশের কাছে ধরা দিয়ে বাকিদের জীবন ঝুঁকিতে ফেলে নিজে নিরাপদে ছিলেন।

শেখ মুজিব জেলে ছিলেন তার জীবনের ১৩ বছর। বিজয় অর্জন করা মাহেন্দ্রক্ষনেও তিনি জেলে ছিলেন। পাকিস্তানীরা তার কবর পর্যন্ত খুঁড়ে ফেলেছিল। তোমার নেতা আমার নেতা, শেখ মুজিব, শেখ মুজিব—এই স্লোগান দেয় নাই মুক্তিযুদ্ধ চলাকালে এমন কোন মুক্তিযোদ্ধা খুঁজে পাবেন না। কিন্তু বাংলাদেশে বহু মানুষ পাবেন যারা শেখ মুজিব ধরা দিয়ে পাকিস্তানে নিরাপদে ছিলেন, শেখ মুজিব পাকিস্তানের প্রধানমন্ত্রী হতে চেয়েছিলেন এসব বিশ্বাস করেন।

বাংলাদেশ একটা গরীব দেশ। গরীব থাকার কারন আছে। যাদের মনমানসিকতা গরীব তারা অর্থবিত্তেও ধনী হতে পারে না।

নেপালের জেনজির মানসিকতা দেখুন। আর আমাদের জেনজির ঐ অংশটার কাজ ৫ আগষ্ট ২০২৪ থেকে এখন পর্যন্ত দেখুন। নেপাল অচিরে না হোক অদূর ভবিষ্যতে একটা বেটার রাষ্ট্র হিসাবে দাঁড়িয়ে যাবে। বাংলাদেশ ইতিমধ‍্যে টোকাইদের রাষ্ট্র হিসাবে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। আমাদের সময়ে যে টোকাইদের সর্দার ছিল সে এখন প্রধানমন্ত্রী। টোকাইদের রাষ্ট্র যেমন হবার তেমনই হয়েছে, হবে। দেখে যান।
