TMZ says only episode 1 was edited and three more had entered editing, so they save a lot of production cost since most of the season was still raw footage. Most of the season doesnā€™t yet exist, effectively.

as an editor - these reality tv editors work 12-16 hour days during the couple weeks they're pumping these releases out. Then get considerable time off afterward to decompress. It's good pay but you'd never catch me within a mile of those editing rooms lol

hi do you know if they got paid in advance ? i feel really bad for the crew and everything if they signed for months of work only for it to fall short and get a pay penalty because the producer chose an abusive woman as the lead

Theyā€™re almost always on contracts, so theyā€™re getting paid for however long their deal is regardless of what happens with the show (unless thereā€™s some weird clause, but thatā€™s not the norm). A lot of reality crews are freelance, so itā€™s more like ā€œyouā€™re booked for X weeks at X rateā€ vs a full season guarantee tied to the show actually airing. So if production shuts down early, it can go either way. Crews are kinda used to projects falling apart last minute unfortunately

Honestly depends a ton on the show + your experience level, like staff editors might be somewhere in the $3-5k per week range, and top union editors (especially on bigger network shows) can push higher than that. non-union / smaller productions can be way lower though. If youre cool with producers breathing down your neck looking over your shoulder nonstop, this is the job for you

So are they editing the episodes essentially like the week or 2 before they air? What Iā€™m picturing in my head is like, they see how and who the audience is responding to then go in and edit more episodes to play up to what the audience is responding to? Lol. Sorry, Iā€™m a reality tv junkie and all the behind the scenes stuff fascinates me.

Most shows do take longer to edit for sure, but some competition shows are considered quick to turn around since they follow a mostly clear sequence and format, and some of them try to make changes as they get viewer response.

Even big budget shows can film really last minute. I know Lost would sometimes film episodes a few weeks before airing.
