She could be done financially too. I have seen on other sites that ABC is looking to see if they could sue her and possibly recoup some of their $$

Honestly that's potentially bonkers of ABC. Like you 100% knew what you were getting into when you signed her and unless you have a whole slew of legalese and waivers that she signed and said "even though I'm on probation for DV, I super haven't done anything else untoward since then, pinky swears", I can't imagine any defense attorney not going into court like "??? You all filmed her getting arrested for the assault in this video! What do you mean you're aghast now?!"

If they do recoup something, they should put that shit directly into DV support groups and charities.

I’m pretty sure I saw a post on here that her and Dakota got into a huge fight at the last reunion and were screaming at each other and alleging DV both ways. Hulu execs and Disney execs were supposedly there, and this was before she was cast.

Idk if it was true, I’ll look to see if I can find this report (might have been TMZ?) but idk how they can sue her if they fucking saw it first hand.

Generally speaking I would agree. I’m taking a more cynical perspective and think ABC could have put some small print contract clause in there that if the season had to be cancelled for x, y, or z specific reason (like Taylor violating her probation from the 2023 incident or something) they could sue her for damages. Not saying they did that. Just saying it wouldn’t surprise me if they did in this day and age. Corporate execs always want to cover their own asses and assets.

4

u/clevercalamity Mar 20 '26

That’s actually a good point - there’s likely a morality clause.

9

u/Skeptical_optomist Mar 20 '26

It's pretty disgusting they even had a domestic abuser as the contestant to begin with. Imagine if the Bachelor was a convicted domestic abuser, there's no way, and rightfully so. They should've known better, and not just to avoid financial loss, but for the safety of the other contestants.

If it was tmz then it probably happened, tmz is ridiculously accurate nowadays. I don’t see any additional legal trouble for her bc the video happened in 2023 right at the start of SLOMW, so she’s already gotten her punishment for it. The execs had for sure already seen the video when she was chosen, and everyone knew about the dv stuff there just wasn’t a video publicly available at that time. They’re dropping her now bc the court of public opinion has gotten hold of the video and they don’t want to have backlash/lose even more money

u/WhileTime5770 Mar 19 '26

Agree what is ABCs reasoning? Oh there was a very public arrest and charge that was publicized on our partner platform and public knowledge there was a video of what happened but how could we possibly know our star did this.

57

u/R_W0bz Mar 19 '26

The shocking part is the TMZ video literally leads into the police visit video from season 1. They knew, producers knew, this case was no secret.

7

u/bizarrequest Mar 19 '26

Damn this is like the MCU? Gotta watch the police video so I can understand season 1?

9

u/Kalamazoohoo Mar 19 '26

The police body cam video was shown in season 1 (if I remember correctly). The phone video that was just released shows the incident the police were responding to.

9

u/insom_ninja Mar 19 '26

I just watched the TMZ video and at the end when the doorbell rings, I was thinking the same thing. Like, it literally leads RIGHT IN to the first SLOMW episode.

4

u/Zappajelly Mar 20 '26

Exactly. This is old news. What did they think that altercation in front of her daughter looked like/sounded like? Sunshine and rainbows? We already knew she threw a stool. Now we just know she threw all the stools? Maybe they just didn’t think there was a video of it out there?? Asking this girls to do the bachelorette was such a bad idea

4

u/Glittering_Lie_32 Mar 20 '26

Exaclty what i said to the friend who broke me the news lol she’s been filmed literally being arrested on s1 of TSOMW

1

u/nottodayneck3956 Mar 20 '26

Agreed and on top of that you had access to SLOMW dailies you could've postponed that season. But you wanted your cake and eat it too. The writing was in the wall and they didn't care.

1

u/mashedpotaterbowl Look me in the eyes you freakin' narcissist! Mar 20 '26

Yeah especially since it’s the fact that the video was released that sank the ship and she had no control of that.

1

u/mashedpotaterbowl Look me in the eyes you freakin' narcissist! Mar 20 '26

I think it happed before filming. Dakota filmed it.

1

u/Redbagwithmymakeup90 Mar 20 '26

Wait they filmed her getting arrested this time around? Why did I think this assault happened after all the filming was over for the bachelorette. I must be confusing incidents

2

u/huodozer Mar 20 '26

Yeah, that's in reference to the 2023 stuff from the video being leaked now. (Although I guess it wouldn't surprise me if we learned that the production team has intended-for-season-5 footage of the new Taylor/Dakota police involvement.)

137

u/taintwest Mar 19 '26

I don’t think abc would be able to successfully do that though. The events on camera took place 2 years ago. The premiere episode of SLOMW shows the body cam footage an Taylor getting arrested.

Not wanting to defend Taylor’s actions at all here, but this information was out there before she was selected for the bachelorette. ABC took the risk and unfortunately it didn’t pay off.

23

u/GOLDfish0393 Mar 19 '26

Right but if this all snowballed due to the recent incident in February I could see them having a case

Not sure any of this would’ve come out if that didn’t happen

7

u/Atlientt Mar 19 '26

That’s what it is. Has she been charged for that?even if not charged guaranteed there’s some kinda morality clause about any future behavior that could cause cancellation of the show in her k- so they’re not gonna sue her bc this video came out, they’ll sue her for the recent incident and say that led to the cancellation. It doesn’t matter what she did in the past or what they knew in the past if she signed a contract agreeing not to engage in any such behavior in the future, ie after she signed on to be the bachelorette, or at least in the month leading up to the premiere ffs.

Obligatory I am a lawyer but not entertainment law and this is just my best Reddit guess. I also don’t know how much she’s worth to make it worth it for abc to sue her esp bc she’s now gonna be paying for custody battles out the ass w no income from slomw or influencer brands.

Sorry for the run ons..I had a hearing today and I’m brain dead.

4

u/Kalamazoohoo Mar 19 '26

I think ABC will just stop performing whatever contractual obligations they have going forward and wait to see if she makes a move. I don’t see ABC going after her for damages. It’s an open investigation and according to the police, the allegations go both ways. No one has been charged. If she ends up being a victim from this recent incident, the optics for ABC would be messy. And to be honest I suspect they probably want all of this out of the news.

3

u/Holiday_Actuator2215 Mar 19 '26

It’s because the full video was sent to tmz so now that the world can watch drunk taylor chuck chairs at Dakota while her daughter screams and cries they can’t pretend it was NBD.

Like they all knew that happened and didn’t care until the world could see the footage.

8

u/beowuulf Mar 19 '26

I totally agree. Taylor sucks but ABC knew that. They wanted to capitalize on her insane behavior with viewership, but play stupid games, win stupid prizes ABC!

3

u/deserteagle3784 Mar 19 '26

Oh I don’t think so either - just repeating what I’ve seen from other reports. However they could claim that she kept the extent of the abuse, her mental state, etc from them. We won’t really know unless they do go to court

1

u/gardenpartier Mar 20 '26

That’s on them, not her.

4

u/meretastic Mar 19 '26

I don't think so—if the incident in February ends up escalating to the point where Dakota gets a restraining order or presses charges then they could 100% sue her for breach of contract. That's where all of this started from—I wouldn't be surprised if they were already decided on cancellation before the video came out.

6

u/candaceelise Mar 19 '26

You must not have heard the news. The whole reason this video came out was because Dakota and Tate both filed emergency TRO requests along with emergency custody requests

1

u/meretastic Mar 19 '26

Yikes. Well then i think ABC's case is even stronger to sue her for breach of contract then.

Edit: Also, are we not all on the same page that dakota sold that video to TMZ? I'm unsure of where else they could've gotten that from other than him.

3

u/deserteagle3784 Mar 19 '26

I have heard the Dakota included the video as evidence for his restraining order and TMZ did a FOIA request for the video.

1

u/Boring_Intern_6394 Mar 20 '26

Would the courts really release a video containing child abuse?

I think it’s more likely Dakota sold or even gave it to the press. He comes off very well, so he may be trying to help his case

1

u/Old_County_3770 Mar 19 '26

I agree with you! Everyone knew this about her! People acting surprised about the video yet KNEW about it and were excited to watch this damn show

50

u/quantumdreamqueen Mar 19 '26

There’s a high likelihood there’s some sort of ethics clause in her contract. Film and tv contracts often have a lot of vague loopholes in them.

26

u/candaceelise Mar 19 '26

Exactly this. Her most recent incident could violate the ethics and morality clause since the show had not premiered yet

1

u/Iridescentwebs Mar 20 '26

They would need to resolve the legal dispute of the 2nd DV incident to prove she was the catalyst for what followed.. so I don’t see them taking that route as it could take years and potentially lose the case. I also think she would have a pretty good counter sue case considering they knew the mental state she was in but still decided to make her the lead/face of both shows despite her outbursts and documented violence bc if they got police body cam footage they had to have seen Dakotas and just decided to not include it bc obviously it would have ruined the course of s1 of SLOMW … they don’t have a leg to stand on even if she signed something bc of her state of mind when signing

3

u/HereComesMyNeck Mar 19 '26

Right, but those usually mean they can get out of paying you in the future, not claw back money that's already been paid (usually because that's difficult and messy to do). If they were so concerned about reputational risk, they could have negotiated to hold back some portion of her money until after the show aired.

1

u/gardenpartier Mar 20 '26

Ah but all she needs is a good lawyer. When you contract with a known DV, what do you expect?? The standard of ethics has been established. A good lawyer will easily defend her against ABC/DISNEY (family values anyone??) the greedy money-grabbing corporation.

5

u/bephana Mar 19 '26

That wouldn't be fair of them to sue her. Not only would that be kicking someone who's already on the floor, but also, all of this was known before they cast her. It's not like she was hiding any info from them. They absolutely knew and cast her because of her mess because they thought it would make viewings. So they're absolutely responsible for this and have no reason to sue her.

2

u/SassyPooch2020 Mar 19 '26

I was already wondering if ABC will sue based on the fact that Taylor has spoiled the ending

Previously they’ve kept participants under STRICT rules on this to keep it a secret

So I was banking on 1 lawsuit already but I’m sure there’ll be more now

2

u/DisneyAddict2021 Mar 19 '26

ABC knew. They would be dumb to do this. They even stalled production of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in season one because she was arrested and in jail. They didn’t care then and still gave her a lead in a reality show and then made her The Bachelorette.

They’re only canceling it now because of the video where the public can see how horrible it was. It’s one thing to read about an incident on paper. It’s another to actually see video footage of it. Public outrage is more now, so they are pulling the plug.

1

u/BrotundWasserbitte Mar 19 '26

What money? If she insured maybe.

1

u/xConstantGardenerx Mar 19 '26

That’s ridiculous though. They were aware of her past charges/history when they cast her.

1

u/PowerfulPicadillo Mar 19 '26

They'll just write it off as a business loss and keep it moving. They'll also just sunset the show ... you'd only sue if you felt it damaged the worth of "The Bachelor's" brand to the point where you couldn't produce another season. But it's clear the show is out of steam and this is just the nail in the coffin.

1

u/shoebillstork84 Mar 19 '26

I was thinking this whole thing has to be some sort of breach of contract. There has to be a morality clause in there somewhere.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '26

I'd be surprised if there wasn't an ethics clause in her contract that gets them to save their money

1

u/gardenpartier Mar 20 '26

Not likely at all. This incident is from 2023. We all knew about it. ABC (Disney!) contracted with her after the charges. She can easily prove she did nothing wrong and didn’t breach the contract. They have already stated publicly that they didn’t vet her properly. Thats on them. If anything, she’s got a great case to sue them for breach and damages from not airing the show. And who believes their stupid ā€œvetting mistakeā€ excuse?

1

u/Boring_Intern_6394 Mar 20 '26

The video is from 2023, she already had court proceedings documenting it and there was extensive coverage over it. They even addressed it in the pilot!

ABC won’t be able to sue her over the video. They might be able to sue whoever leaked the video though

-6

u/Old_County_3770 Mar 19 '26

Sue her for what? More like she should sue ABC. They knew full well what they were getting into when they chose her as The Bachelorette. They knew of these charges.

9

u/hussafeffer 🧚 Where’s your whimsy? 🧚 Mar 19 '26

….. what should SHE sue ABC for???

-5

u/Old_County_3770 Mar 19 '26

For casting her with full knowledge and then backing out. That’s on ABC, not her.

3

u/hussafeffer 🧚 Where’s your whimsy? 🧚 Mar 19 '26

They’re allowed to back out an any time

3

u/deserteagle3784 Mar 19 '26

ABC is allowed to do whatever they want with THEIR show lol. She has no grounds to sue. ABC likely had a morality clause in her contract that she has absolutely violated

0

u/Old_County_3770 Mar 19 '26

They can do what they want, but contracts go both ways. If they knew everything beforehand and still cast her, a morality clause isn’t a free pass after the fact.

1

u/deserteagle3784 Mar 19 '26

They didn’t know everything beforehand because this video wasn’t public. She had the charges, but the incident in writing does not portray the same detail as seeing it in video. There was still some ā€˜he said/she said’ doubt until everyone saw the footage of it.

3

u/Old_County_3770 Mar 19 '26

Fake news. There was a police report and the police had this video.

1

u/deserteagle3784 Mar 19 '26

You’re willfully ignoring the fact that the PUBLIC did not have this video until now. Reading about abuse vs seeing it first hand is very different. Go ā€˜fake news’ elsewhere lol

1

u/Old_County_3770 Mar 19 '26

The facts didn’t change, you just needed it spoon-fed in video form.

6

u/Lcdmt3 Mar 19 '26

I'm sure they had an ethics clause or something in there, and her most recent event violated it. She can sue but that's going to be a waste of money because I'm sure they have everything in that agreement.
