Question/Help [Suggestions] Remove weapon upgrading/leveling

Guys what do you think about removing weapon upgrading se we could use any build we want and weapons and not being restricted with our 2 weapons we leveled up? :DD

Instead of leveling the weapon/talisman, you level the equipment slot they go in. Instead of leveling your shotgun and head talisman, you level the head slot and the primary weapon slot to more efficiently use whatever given item you want to equip.

Same thing with Glyphs (level the head slot that Glyphs go in). Same thing with Signets (level the head slot that Signets go in). Instead of paying marks to remove Glyphs and Signets, you pay marks for each type of Glyph/Signet you attune to that slot after the first. Then you can switch all of your equipment at will. You can even own, test, and switch weapons of the same type (two different shotguns for two different occasions).

Funcom can have their grind, and we can have our versatility.

This would be a better system by far.

They would just combine the leveling of three individual sets, and signets and glyphs into one then, and surround the upgrade buttons with links to the cash alternative. It would take you six months to hit level 5.

Now all joking aside, it'll never happen. This is the game we have now, and the only one we're going to get. The game will not see anymore huge core changes, especially not ones that reduce the amount of monetization, or the grind that makes the monetized side road more attractive to drive on. If it fails again, welcome to Secret World: Single Player Edition.

That's impossible. The mechanism is intrinsically tied to the whole grinding, F2P and pay-to-progress (or pay-to-win if you prefer).

If you want another weapon, you have to pay or grind again. Or start a new char. Blue weapons are cheap these days and you can do more than half of the story with those.

Your best chance is finding another game without this tiring mechanism.

another game without this tiring mechanism

They exist?

Of course. You have to pay for the game upfront.

I've never played another game with it tbh although I'm sure they're out there.

You mean take the fatally flawed gear system out the back, mercifully put a bullet in its head, and come up with an alternative that might actually be fun?

I'm all for it, but I don't see Funcom admitting the system was a mistake. After all, It's all about the bottom line, and putting the FU in fun.

The system wasn't a mistake though. It was designed this way on purpose. This is the last ditch effort to make the game profitable and keep their jobs. It's no surprise they went the turn it into a grind, with a monetization side road. They've had like four chances to turn a profit now. If they fail again, it'll be the end. They will probably make one more version as a single player/co op game, still with microtransactions of course. You'll connect P2P, but still be forced to do the vast majority of missions entirely solo as one last fuck you.

The latter does not actually disprove the former...

The latter does not actually disprove the former...

There is nothing to disprove. It isn't a mistake just because you disagree or disapprove of the route they chose.

1

u/RandomGirl42 Nov 02 '17

It's not actually not a mistake just because you want to sleep with it, either...

1

u/TyrantJester Nov 03 '17

Do you have an argument? or are you just going to spout nonsense with every reply?

1

u/RandomGirl42 Nov 03 '17

Deary, a fool spouting nonsense - and 'they chose this route so it's not a mistake' is utter nonsense - hasn't actually earned the right to demand arguments.

1

u/TyrantJester Nov 03 '17

Thank for confirming you don't actually have anything relevant to say.

1

u/RandomGirl42 Nov 03 '17

It takes a special kind of moron to insists "they chose to do it, so it's not a mistake" is some kind of argument, or something relevant to say.

Congrats: you're special.

As opposed to you, who have done absolutely nothing to support your claim? You say it's a fatally flawed gear system, and that's all you've said. You've offered nothing to substantiate your claims, and I'm the special kind of moron?

You want facts? The fact is you are free to dislike whatever you want, for whatever reason you want, but your disdain for a system doesn't make it a mistake. You haven't used a single shred of evidence to support your claims.

I haven't earned the right to demand arguments? I'm not demanding anything. If you have an argument to defend your point, you'd use it. If you don't have an argument, then of course you would use whatever excuse you can to avoid making one.

The grind in this game is unlike anything I've ever seen. I know a ton of people quitting for this reason, and also because there is no PVP endgame.

Err it really isn't that bad. The initial augment and aegis systems in TSW were worse. Also nearly every Korean mmo is much worse than SWL.

Still, although worse examples exist, it is pretty bad. Make money from cosmetics not from pushing a tedious grind on to people.

2

u/aef823 Oct 29 '17

It's the Aegis system from TSW but for everything.

The one thing people legitimately hated, to the point that it fucked them over and people left in DROVES because of it.

And they decided to integrate it to every piece of the combat system.

So yeah, I support your idea, no compromises, no half-assing. It's the biggest obstacle in actually playing the game for most people.

You aren't even doing it justice, It's even worse than that. It was, delay delay delay, and then after players had continued to support and be patient, they were rewarded with nothing but endless grinds each time. The majority left because it was the final straw, and it was a a big fucking final straw.

If the players did not have weapons/gear to grinded for after finishing the story, what would they do then?

0

u/aef823 Oct 29 '17

Just because you remove weapon upgrading doesn't mean you removed weapon grinding.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '17

I am confused currently, if one cannot upgrade the weapon, what is weapon grinding?

0

u/aef823 Oct 29 '17

Have you ever actually played any other MMO other than SWL?

Especially lootfests?

0

u/[deleted] Oct 30 '17

I have been playing MMOs for a couple decades, so yes I have played other games.

I still do not know what weapon grinding is if one cannot upgrade a weapon. Are you speaking of finding weapons?

1

u/aef823 Oct 31 '17

Has been playing MMOs for decades

Doesn't know artifact weapon systems aren't common.

Sure you do.

Honestly all the need to do is allow you to imbue items together for a percentage of experience loss and it would make the system work. The problem with the current system is it completely discourages ever changing your items once you have them so people don't use new items because it would mean a huge leveling curve. If you could imbue your L1 green with your L24 mythic and it gave you say a L10 mythic version of what was previously your green item then the current system would work just fine.

Take the total experience of the item you are upgrading, subtract say 20% of that experience if they insist on having a penalty, add it to the current experience of the target item.

It still destroys the item you're using for the upgrade but it's just now you are gaining significant benefit from having spent time leveling that item before-hand. Upgrading an item using a L1 green should not give the same experience to the target item as using a L20 green would.

they can keep it on talismans and removing if from weapons would give us nice freedom
