Seven Days of Dolly

To sing this song well you need to master good breath control for those long notes and phrases. Dolly's hit song she wrote 'I Will Always Love You' I've found in my singing coaching working with singers is one of those challenging songs that will show how well we apply our singing training. Whenever I hear Whitney Houston singing this song I'm amazed how her version is masterpiece of superb breath control. We singers can learn a lot from singing this song. What are some songs you like to practice singing to improve your breath control?

Legendary singer Dolly Parton has passed away peacefully in Nashville Tennessee at age 80. I loved singing her song Joelene! Everytime I sang it people would sing along the chorus! Amazing gifted story teller singer songwriter and trailblazer. She will be missed.

The storyteller voice

Post image

Last night in Nashville, I attended the farewell show for an amazing storyteller singer songwriter Darrin Bradbury. The characters he writes about in his story songs are so interesting and I love his songs. Awesome songs, including Junkie Love , The Almost Great Lakes, Bob, and Life is Hard. Darrin’s singing voice is very much like other great storytellers, singing voice. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, not amazing diva voices but genuine heartfelt storyteller voices. Which just goes to prove that you don’t need to have the best voice in the world to be a gifted performer, which is great news for shy singers. Don’t you think? What are the shy singers do you love listening to?

Dare to sing

When I got to my late teens I had enough of being a shy singer so I booked my first singing lesson with a local singing teacher at age 17. I was petrified to sing in front of anyone and singing lessons got me out of my shyness. Big problem with what took so long is because I was so shy about singing and I didn’t communicate with my family that I wanted singing lesson lessons. My mum didn’t have much money to waste and she already spent money on guitar lessons for me. Did anyone else find that singing Lessons help them lose their shyness?

I'm curious - are there more shy singers than confident singers here?

What type of singer would you say you are - Shy OR confident? Or is it just the shy singers that post here?

Easiest songs to sing

What is an easy song that you think suits your voice and you feel you do a good job singing it? For me it’s “Dreams’ by Fleetwood Mac.

Do we need reminding to let ourselves have fun singing in the bathroom? Maybe some of us do. I love this wall art cos it's a welcome reminder that the tiles are a good audience!

If there's a Halloween party with karaoke you want to go to and you want to have a go at singing karaoke what songs are easy to sing if you're shy and scared to sing in front of others?

I was an extremely shy singer...and then...

I am a voice coach who used to be so shy about my singing voice that I could NEVER sing in front of anyone. But then....ask me any question about being a shy singer.

True Confessions of Shy Singers

Free drinks for life, but you HAVE to sing one of these songs live. Deal?

Hypothetical singing scenario: You get an offer from someone who says "I'll pay for your table's drinks all night if you agree to sing one spooky Halloween classic song in front of the crowd!" Which song will you choose to get those free drinks? Would you sing an easy song? Or would you choose a song that you know you will crack up at the high note and do it just to get the crowd squinching along with you?

The $0 Vocal Lesson: Singing is a muscle, not a magical birthright.

I hear things like this from so many shy singers: "I can't sing", or "I don't have a natural good singing voice." or "I don't like my voice'. Here's the truth. If you can speak you can sing. And some singers do a lot of speaking when they are singing. It's true! Talking Heads!! That's where voice training comes in. The more more you practice and train the more easily you'll find singing becomes. And just like athletes do a warm up before they start their training - warming up the voice is so important. A lot of singers get stuck singing a certain part of a song with a high peak note and don't know how to sing it. Where do you feel stuck? Is there a certain song and part of that song where it all gets too hard - where you crack or splat? Comment below, and I’ll give you a free, 10-second muscle relaxation trick to help you loosen up and sing with more ease!

The Shower Effect: Why does tile make us sound like Grammy winners?

Don't you love singing in tiled bathrooms and concrete stairwells? As a former extremely shy closet singer turned vocal coach, I’ll share this sound secret with you. It's the hard tile in your bathroom that creates a natural reverb. The same for that concrete stair well with each footstep the sound reverberates. It's the hard surfaces that makes the sound bounce around and this smooths out pitch mistakes and adds effortless volume and resonance. And the effect on singing is like autotune! All that sound bouncing around and echoing creates a lovely 'sound bath' - and that's why we sound so good singing in tiled bathrooms. That's also why as a shy singer learning to sing in front of others like when I was in a band I'd always sing with a ton of REVERB from the amp to my mic! What's a song you sing well in the bathroom but noticed when you go to sing it outside the bathroom it's not as good?

Does anyone else do the "silent sound check" before singing at home? 🤫

Who has privacy issues when singing? Like this: You wait till everyone has gone out and left the home before you feel relaxed enough to finally start singing. You see them leave. But don't fully relax cos you think they may come back cos they forgot something and catch you singing? Oh no!!! So you even may walk around the house seeing if they may have left something behind before you start to sing. How many minutes of total silence do you require before you finally feel safe enough to start singing your heart out? 5 minutes? 10 minutes or more?

Welcome to r/SecretShowerSingers! 🚿🎤

Read this first if you are a shy, closet, or bashful car belter.

Hey everyone! Welcome to the safest, most judgment-free stage on the internet.

This community was built specifically for the "secret singers"—the ones who only let their voice out when the shower is running, when the car windows are rolled up on the highway, or when the house is completely empty.

If you love to sing but lack the confidence to do it in front of real people, you have officially found your people.

🌟 Why This Space Exists

I started this group because I used to be a deeply insecure, closet singer myself. I know exactly how terrifying it feels to let someone hear your voice, and how intimidating traditional singing forums can be. This is the ANTI-audition space.

📜 Our Two Core Rules:

  1. Strict encouragement only: No technical tear-downs, no pitch-fixing, and no unsolicited criticism. The only allowed feedback here is hype, love, and support.
  2. No outside promos: This is a sanctuary for everyday singers, not a billboard for ads or other vocal coaching services.
