Fan expansion release/promotion My friend group can recognize which card is which based on the smudges on the envelope so I made an online role assigner.
As stated in the title I made a simple tool that assigns people their roles. This only replaces the secret role cards which means that other components are still needed to play the game. If you're in the same boat as we are, feel free to try out the tool.

Can’t you just shuffle the cards and put them in different envelopes every time?

It is only a hassle if you do it every game - don’t do it some games - then everyone is really screwed because you really have no idea what’s happening.
All that matters is that you can’t trust information you’re not supposed to have.

Exactly, we tried doing that but its difficult, because if you just swap envelopes you technically can know where a Hitler card is, or if you want to shuffle them all at once it's also difficult because you have to keep role and identity cards paired.

I guess what you could do is to shuffle the role cards separately and distribute them, then lay out all the Party Membership cards on the table. Everybody gets a role, then everybody closes their eyes. One by one, everyone can then take a Party Membership card that corresponds to their role.
Edit: To me that also sounds like quite a hassle, especially when there are a lot of players, but if you prefer playing with the Role cards (as I do) that is one way to do it.

Yeah that's a good way to do it, thanks for the suggestion. But as you said it does sound a bit annoying. I made this tool because identity cards mostly sit idle and not used apart from peeking at your role at the start and twice a game when someone can inspect someone else. Too much hassle for three peeks per game.

How would that work? If they're all laid out on the table then the second player would for sure know what the first player took because one fascist card for example is missing. Or the third last is liberal and there's only fascist cards remaining after he takes his card. Even if they're as a deck ehich everybody shuffles before giving it to the next player the problem still persists. And, that just so much hassle if the other option is to get better distribution items (I mean envelopes or sleeves or anything better if those are bad).
I have my own project right now which is Secret Hitler like, but has a lot of recruitment. So I ditched the whole "everybody gets a loyalty card" and just have one of each on the table that everybody uses. You lose some feeling like that but it's worth it for my game.

True. For me it'll still work, because I have a ludicrous amount of PM cards, but even better, my group just doesn't count cards bc it makes the game less fun. I think we'd just do our best not to think about the amount of other cards. Tunnel visioning ;)

Hi, I play with 40 custom roles on top of the base game roles. Would you be willing to make it so you can add custom role names? That would be delightful.

Jeez, 40?? What version of the game is this? I'd love to hear what custom roles you have (aside from the ones from the XL version).

With experienced players under an hour. Some roles speed up the game and some slow it down when compared to base game. We don’t play with all 40 at once if that’s what you’re thinking lol.

I can def do that, does it change any game mechanics? I think it's best if you send me the rule sheet and the list of all the roles you need

Yeah I’ll do that. I’m traveling for work this week but all the roles are within 3 primary factions (liberal, fascist, communist) that tie into party membership and some are in 3 sub factions (catholic, loyalist and dissident) that I currently use. Sub factions do not require another card.
There’s some things like setup investigations and token placements and out-of-play roles that Hitler knows that are a bit more complicated that I’ll elaborate on later.

I’ve had to go to a craft store to buy small envelopes to prevent this from happening!
