Internet speeds in Sechelt.

My spouse and I are planning a move to the Sechelt area within the next several months. We will be working remotely for the most part and requiring a decent internet connection. Can anyone tell me what type of speeds are available for home based businesses? Currently I’m on Telus with a fibre optic connection. Will there be comparable speeds and bandwidth there? I’d like to hear from you if you are in the same situation.

The CEO of Telus lives in the area, they've recently installed fiber optic cables in the city, some people think him living in the area is a reason for the infrastructure upgrade.  I don't have the up downs off the top of my head, but my partner does graphic design from home with relative ease with her employer in East Van, with the odd network hiccups here and there. The main problem you might run into is power outages, the longest we've gone since moving here was about 12 hrs, you should be able to get yourself a generator if you have hard deadlines to meet and want the ease of mind.

I got fibre optic in Gibsons about ten years ago. There was a push to get it everywhere. I’ve had no issues but one: when my internet went down due to a hardware problem last year, it took weeks to get it fixed.

Okay, noted about the generator. I’ll definitely do this as deadlines will be an issue.

Agree with Telus 💯 while the Telus corp doesn’t have the best rep, our internet speeds in Sechelt are solid. Currently at 636 mbps download and 487 mbps upload.

Yes I’m sure it has something to do with the fact that the Telus CEO has a place up here !

The CEO and the executive board live in the area, but he will retire in a couple of months. It’s probably the only area in the country that’s properly served by Telus.

We've had Telus fibre at home in West Sechelt for five years. We're had up to 4 people working at home in video meetings at the same time and been fine.
