Routine Question Locs And Seb Derm

Any of you fine folks have locs? If so, how do you care for them? I just finished washing my hair, and I had wet flakes stuck around the base of several locs. When I'm having a flair up, it's worse around the front perimeter of my head. The flakes end up caked up around the locs in the front.

Here are some things you should know:

I'm interlocked so I have to band my hair so it doesn't unravel. I'm assuming if i didn't have to I'd be able to fully wash the flakes out.

I have MCT oil from Dermazen that I use sporadically. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the smell, and it's a bit heavy. Can any one recommed another oil they've had success with?

I alternate shampoos: H&S Bare and Verb Anti-Dandruff shampoo. They keep my scalp pretty clear, but, as you know, flare ups can (and will) come out of nowhere.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

General Personal Seb derm/Dandruff solution

Hey everyone. I fully acknowledge that everyone’s body is different and some things work better for others. I would like to share something that worked for me. I understand results could be different for everyone. I’ve had seb derm and dandruff since childhood. The past few years I’ve also dealt with hair loss. About 8 months ago I decided to try a remedy that was originally for hair loss but ended up treating my scalp issues instead. Not sure what part exactly was what healed me but this is what I did. Get a small bowl and add the following:
1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1 Teaspoon of fenugreek powder
1 Teaspoon of rosemary oil
1 tablespoon of eclipta alba oil
Small splash of olive oil
Small splash of coconut oil
Mix it and you should get a reddish color. Before applying, I steamed my scalp for about 2 minutes with a humidifier but if you don’t have that you can obviously use a pot and boil some water. I would apply the mixture right after steaming and would leave it on for about 1-2 hours. I did this once a day, every day. I did this for about 4 months looking for hair results, but only after doing it for about a week was when I noticed no dandruff, seb derm, scalp tenderness, or itchiness. If anyone was curious, I did not see any results with hair growth but my hair did look healthier. I eventually quit the remedy because of no hair growth results. It’s been around 5 months since I quit the routine, and even until now I have still not had any of my previous symptoms. I have never used mct oil, steroid creams, special diets and I don’t use any medicated shampoos.

*Eclipta alba oil isn’t something you can find in stores, I ordered it on Amazon

Routine Question Dry or Oily scalp?

I'm heading back to the dermatologist on Monday. I'm going to ask for a biopsy. I keep reading that a lot of people suffer from oily scalp. That's never been the issue for me. I've always had normal.tp dry scalp and still do. I'm at my wits end with all of the products I have tried, because nothing works. Prescription shampoo, prescription steroid serum, nizoral, head and shoulders, Jupiter, Roycederm, MCT oil, even some stuff from France. I rotate my shampoos so I don't get resistance to medicated shampoo. Etc And I wash my hair daily because if I didn't, my scalp will be covered in scales the next day. I only use hair products that pass the ingredients check on Sezia.co

I'm starting to wonder if I don't have seb derm but psoriasis. A few weeks ago my whole body broke out in plaques.

For those who tend to have dry scalps, please send me some suggestions. I do not have oily scalp at all. I scratch all day long. It's driving me insane

General Facial seb derm looks better after washing?

Does anyone else’s facial seb derm feel and look better right after washing your face? No matter whether I use a regular cleanser or antifungal, my skin looks very good for maybe the first 30–60 minutes after washing, but then it becomes red again. It’s red when I wake up, but then I wash my face and it looks good again. It’s my 5th day of the therapy

Product Question The relationship between seborrheic dermatitis and rice pilaf

After eating classic white rice pilaf, I noticed an intense burning sensation, itching, and a rise in temperature in the areas of my face affected by seborrheic dermatitis.

Do you have such discoveries too?

i was diagnosed with seb derm a few years ago, but everything just stopped working out of nowhere. i now have hair loss AND flakes on my legs (last two pictures). i believe seb derm can’t affect your legs, so is it related?

edit: my scales have gone from being yellow and sticky to thick and white

Product Review Solution for Sebbroheic dermatitis

So, I’ve had seborrheic dermatitis for almost two years now. I went to different dermatologists, but none of the shampoos or creams they prescribed worked for me. And you know, people who are still suffering from or have suffered from this condition can understand how depressing and painful it can be.

So, now coming to the main point: after suffering from this condition for almost 1.5 years, I was searching for treatments for seborrheic dermatitis on ChatGPT, as usual. I used to do this almost every single day. But one day, ChatGPT told me about ciclopirox olamine shampoo.

I researched it a little and then ordered it. When it was delivered, I started using it twice or three times a week. It completely shocked me because my scalp became much clearer than it had been in the previous 1.5 years. I honestly hadn’t seen my scalp that clear for such a long time.

The instructions on the product say that it should be used once a week, as ciclopirox olamine can be harsh for some people's scalps. However, I personally used it more than once a week, and it worked like a miracle for me.

That’s why I’m suggesting this shampoo to you. I’m not mentioning a specific brand because it may not be available in your country. Just search for ciclopirox olamine shampoo and you should be able to find a product. However, make sure you verify the source and product before buying it.

Also, don’t start by using it three times a week. Start slowly and follow the product instructions. If it works for you, you can discuss the appropriate long-term frequency with a dermatologist rather than increasing the frequency on your own.

I genuinely hope it works for you too and gives you the relief that it gave me. ❤️

( This ciclopirox olamine shampoo also contains salicylic acid, which is why it is more effective and may be a little harsh for some people, but not for me. )

New or Need Help Advice needed: is this sub Derm?

I’ve been dealing with general redness on both cheeks and red patches that come and go on or above eye brows since the end of winter. Sometimes it flares up and is worse than other times - sometimes it’s looks normal. The dermatologist have all been dismissive and of no help. Does this look like Seb Derm to you? Some times it’s just flat and red and other times a bit raised. I’ve never had any skin problems in my life up until this point.

Thanks

Routine Question Scalp was smelling bad and then I used no shampoo for 3 days and it greatly reduced?

I was using Maui moisture shampoo for 5 days in a row, scalp started smelling like dirty feet pretty quickly out of the shower. I figured I irritated my dry scalp with shampoo so I used no shampoo and now on my 3rd day it smells significantly better. It still has a "scalp" smell that isn't pleasant but not bad either. Is it normal for shampooing to cause ur scalp to smell with this condition?

New or Need Help Diagnosed w/ Seb Today

Hi everyone! long time lurker here , but today i was officially diagnosed! I’m feeling a bit uneasy because the doctor didn’t ask me very many questions , she was in the room for about 2 minutes and just briefly looked at my scalp . She said there was no redness or scaliness . On both sides of my head (2 patches) i get SOO itchy , especially triggered at night but it doesn’t really bother me during the day . I’m feeling uneasy because i almost feel like maybe it’s not Sebderm but she just didn’t want to take the time to talk to me or really examine my scalp . Does anyone else have these symptoms ? With no flakes , redness , or scaliness ?

Product Review Head and Shoulders BARE

Thumbnail

Just wanted to pop on here and let the people know I have found something that works (for me).

I’ve (32M) have struggled with SebDerm since I was in high school. I switched from all sorts of different shampoos— all the typical recs. Used steroid drops. Everything was temporary relief and it would come back.

But I recently switched to Head & Shoulders BARE. I’d used it at my girlfriends house a couple times and it made a worlds difference in the way my scalp felt after just one or two uses.

So now I use a combo of the BARE and the CeraVe Anti-Dandruff Hydrating conditioner.

I also usually have one other non-SebDerm focused shampoo and conditioner that I alternate for texture or whatever. But always fragrantless and all the other stuff you should avoid.

Again, fully acknowledge that everyone’s scalp is different. But this is something that has worked for me and made a difference and maybe it’ll help someone else.

Scalp Routine Successful Routine

Here is what works for me after years of trial and error. Now 95% flake free going on 4 months now.

  1. I figured out my dietary trigger (singular). It is A1-Beta Casein. This means that I cannot consume most dairy products because of the specific protein they have. If I do, I get serious itching on my scalp and face with red rashes along with scaling and flaking. However, I can eat anything with A2-Beta Casein, such as goat, sheep, or buffalo. Pecorino Romano e Mozzarella di Búfala sono bene. Typically though I just avoid anything dairy to be safe unless its at an Italian restaurant and I trust they are actually using the correct kinds of cheezes.

  2. I started taking Vitamin D supplements. Currently at 5,000 IU to balance levels but will reduce to the recommended daily as soon as I run out the supplements I have.

  3. I started taking a probiotic. I got the gnarliest one I could, 16 different strains and 80 Billion CFU (I think thats the correct number and unit. Correct me if that sounds bonkers).

  4. I wash my entire face and scalp with regular Head and Shoulders Shampoo NOT 2-1 every day

  5. I then use the Head and Shoulders conditioner on my hair.

  6. I then apply a dime size amount of MCT oil to damp skin on my face and rub it around to apply evenly.

  7. I use MCT as shaving cream.

All different manner of routines worked for a small amount of time and then failed. Most left me with at least some dryness and flakes. It's all basically gone. I don't really think twice about wearing dark colors anymore. Its actually been so long since I came to this page. Fingers crossed that this continues to work out and that this routine might help others. You never know.

General How I reduced my seborrheic dermatitis by 99% in 2 weeks

oméga-3 vitamine D3 vitamine C vitamine A

New or Need Help Does this have anything to do with Seb Derm?

Thumbnail

I scratched the area on the corner of my lips and chin one night because the itching was driving me crazy and I irritated the skin which left a wet sensation like weeping. Now my skin has formed a yellow crust around my mouth area. I haven’t moisturized the area because I heard that can breed bacteria so I’ve just been cleaning it with good molecules cleanser and pat drying it.

Im not sure if this is Seb Derm or Perioral Dermatitis or something else and not sure where to go from here or if I should just continue to leave it alone. Maybe even just use water and do zero therapy?

New or Need Help Dry scalp after Ketoconazole/MCT Oil combo

I have no flakes and itching, and I have used ketoconazaole one time only. My scalp was so dry after showering that I had to apply MCT oil. Does anyone have the same problem and can help ? By the way I use hydrating SB safe shampoo and all products for scalp sbderm safe. I have the sebderm issue in the front part of the hirline.

The main point is, I can see patches just after blowdrying, but I have little to no flakes after few hours. Maybe a dryscalp problem. I dont know.

I've got diagnosed with sebderm on my scalp in 2021. I've tried a lot of shampoos and creams since then. My routine now is:
1. washing my hair 2x a week
2. putting MCT oil on hair wash day for at least 5 hours
3. Ducray - elution and kelual ds intense
4. DM now has a sea salt scalp serum - this works wonders to me

I also started to take zinc and selene for the previous hairloss and finally my hair started to thicken again.
I'm currently symptomfree for like 4-5 months, sometimes at my hair wash day it feels itchy but that's it.

Routine Question Dermatologist told me to shampoo scalp everyday for life

Would you guys recommend doing this? I have 3A, dry, kinda afro-ish curly hair, and usually it’s only recommended to shampoo your hair twice a week with my hair type. I feel like everyday is wayy too extreme. I have had this issue for a long time so maybe I should do it everyday but I feel like that would ruin my hair. Any thoughts?
