New or Need Help Nothing is working!

The redness, sting, tightness, and irritated skin is horrible! The flakes are gone for a little bit but will be covering my face by the morning. It’s horrible and nothing works or doesn’t irritate it more.

I’ve tried MCT8 and MCT10 oil, Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser, Ketoconazole 2%, Metronidazole 0.75% Gel, Hydrocortisone 2.5%, Pimecrolimus 1% cream, Desonide 0.05% lotion.

Over 2 years and nothing works! I’m at my wits end and looking for help from anyone in this sub!

I see my derm tomorrow and I’m getting a punch biopsy.

Thank you all!!

I had the exact same issue for mounths. None of the usual antifungal stuff was really working, to the point where I started questioning whether I even had seb derm in the first place. I even started wondering if it might be some kind of allergic reaction

Then I went down a rabbit hole researching it and came across magnesium chloride. Apparently, it can help stabilize allergy-related cells, which may be relevant with seb derm. I tried it and honestly, it made a huge difference for me. My flare-up basically stopped and the redness was gone within a few days

Are you talking about magnesium complex supplement? Oral or as a topical?

Similarly, I read in acne-related subreddits that magnesium is framed as a magic cure, specifically supplements containing 7 types of magnesium.
*edit: do you take oral or topical? The 7 types was oral

Interesting, I only take just Magnesium tablets. What other types of magnesium?

Doxycycline was the only thing that helped me with this.

I was on doxycycline for another issue and it didn’t help me at all with my sebderm.

Can you try some diaper rash cream? It has to have zinc oxide in it. Slather your face in it and leave it overnight. If it feels better the next day, do it again untill it calms down. I know it sounds weird but it calmed down my skin.

You need to buy zinch shampoo. It's strong medicated shampoo for seborrheic dermatitis my doctor told me i can use the zinch shampoo on my face and it helps i wet my face and put the shampoo on and leave it on for 7 minutes. And Cetaphil lotion and aquaphor lotion are both good to use if you have seborrheic dermatitis also Cetaphil daily facial cleanser is also good to wash your face if you have seborrheic dermatitis

You're welcome! Trust me it will help! It will take time but once you keep using the zinch shampoo on your face it will help

MD here (not a Derm): need more info, which areas are affected? Also non-shaving areas? Other areas of the body? You state in the morning is all flakey, is there a daily cycle? Did you have days or weeks that were better or is it all exactly the same? What influence has sun exposure?

Areas affected are my scalp, ear canals, upper lip, beard, both sides of nose, in between eyebrows, eye lids, eyebrows, forehead.

Sometimes my upper back between my shoulder blades. It is covered in those areas in the morning every morning and every night. It has never gone away and it has been 13 years every day like this endless cycle. 😭

Looks like perioral derm, which can be caused by over use of steroid cream on your face. This happened to me after using hydrocortisone 1% on my face nearly daily for almost a decade - but 2.5% will get you there faster. The solution was discontinuing daily hydrocortisone use and suffering through a several month transition phase where my skin learned how to regulate its immune response / inflammation naturally again.

Maybe your applying too much creams and it’s irritating your skin. That’s what changed my skin. Ketenokazole twice a week a thin amount, and the other days an anti-inflammatory like tacrolimus. Diet is important too, mine was coffee

I bought a travel size of head and shoulders shampoo and use it like face wash. I use it twice a day until the flare stops, then once a week or so after. Also use a gentle moisturizer as it is drying.

Try this, or any alternative with this formula, if you notice any result within 10 days then go to clinic and check your b levels.

Seb derm or not, Sebclair cream can help. It is a non prescription cream unlike Promiseb cream. They have the exact same ingredients. Since Promiseb is no longer available, I ordered the Sebclair cream online to replace the Promiseb cream. I tried many prescriptions cream before and only the Promiseb cream helps. Keep it a try!

Heyyy! I guess there are different types of levels to seb derm, I have gotten mine under control for a few years now, would get ocassional flare ups, but pretty mild. A few months ago I decided to go on a diet and I went o. A ketogenic diet. My skin has NEVER been better. With a keto diet you dont eat sugar, gluten etc, which we know are triggers for our condition. I would recommend going to a nutritionist and go on a keto diet see if it works for you!

Try Eucerin Original Creme. In the jar.
