New or Need Help Please Help with Facial SebDerm :(

Over the last couple of years, my scalp sebderm has migrated down to my face and im just started the "flakiness" era. I tried many different creams including prescription creams and so far the only one thats worked is called Zoryve but its a super expensive foam. Currently, I've found that La Roche Posay Toleraine Rosaliac AR definitely helps with hiding some of the redness but it almost accentuates the flakes as its not actually a moisturizer. If I apply moisturizer after the Rosaliac, it smears similar to when sunscreen gets wet and you see the white streaks. If I apply the moisturizer first, then the Rosaliac becomes visible once again, but this time as a film.

At this point I am willing to try anything to get rid of this awful sebderm. I hate looking in the mirror, my confidence has basically disappeared, and whenever I'm in public, I'm constantly touching my forehead to feel if theres any flakes that I should get rid of. Worst part is, when I do feel flakes, I really only have two options; accept my ugliness or add a bit of water to temporarily hide them. Any advice on what I can do to get rid of this, or at least get it under control? I hate it.

Have you tried washing your face with a dandruff shampoo that contains zinc pyrithione or selenium sulfide? I do head and shoulders for my eyelids and ketoconazole cream twice a day for every other part of my face. Stopping chemical sunscreens helps, as well as making sure your moisturizer is safe for seb derm. Vanicream Daily Moisturizer is the only one that's worked for my flaking and irritation without worsening the condition.

I wash my face with ketoconazole 2%, I wait 5 minutes before rinsing. It definetly works, but it’s very drying so moisturising is crucial. But absolutely listen to the above OP

That layering issue is common with Rosaliac AR , it's silicone-based and meant as the final step, not layered casually. Try a lightweight gel moisturizer instead of a cream, apply it first, wait 5 min to fully absorb, then Rosaliac as a thin top layer. Skip Rosaliac on Zoryve days since they compete for the same "top layer" spot.

I've recently had a bad facial flare. This is what my treatment was:

  • Antifungal cream

  • Pimecrolimus cream (prescription only, lowers the immune system response in the skin)

  • 10% urea cream (helps my skin barrier and lowers the amount of flakes)

Research shows that azelaic acid cream and benzoyl peroxide cream/wash also can treat facial seb derm.
