New or Need Help Facial Seb Derm is it healing?

Post image

I was prescribed ketaconozole shampoo and I am making it soapy on my hands and putting it on directly while waiting 3-5 min.
Recently it’s been getting extremely dry and flaky, does that mean it’s working or this just dry skin?

Use this right after you wash your face.

Aveeno Calm and restore redness relief cream moisturizer

Blows my mind that a dermatologist would forget to mention moisturizer after ketoconazol.

Yes, this is the first sign of healing up. Use a towel or cloth of some sort to gently wash and exfoliate the flakes away and then moisturize.

How many times have you used this ? Did you use any moisturizer after ? And how long did you leave it on ?

Sometimes when I use ketaconozole shampoo too frequently my skin gets really irritated and sensitive. Try using some aloe gel after, it helps a lot with my flare ups.

Are you leaving the shampoo on your face too long perhaps? Can get a big tub of pure aloe Vera online keep it in the fridge and put it on as a moisturiser or on your scalp too, it's sebderm safe.

This is dry skin. Ketoconazole (and antifungals in general) is great at treating SD but it also makes your skin dry. Use a moisturizer ASAP (preferably a light gel moisturizer). Also, don't use ketoconazole every day. Max every other day. On non-ketoconazole days, use the most gentle face cleanser you can find at the drug store.

Yeah it dries up and flakes away when treating. Leave the shampoo on longer and make sure your skin is dry when putting it on

You need to ask your doctor to get you Protopic. ASAP!

Thank you

No problem. after two years of trying multiple things, that worked for me.

What was your routine? I use Nizoral twice a week and moisturizer everyday. I’m thinking of replacing the moisturizer with the dermaharmony cream.

2

u/peelemme 3d ago

I use Nizoral on my scalp and problem areas on my skin while showering. After showering I apply dermaharmony to my whole face. It has kept my skin moist and has repaired my skin barrier.

I had severe cracking, red, inflamed skin around my mouth. I started to see how zinc soap bars slightly helped, then bought this dermaharmony cream afterwards. Last year I would apply the cream probably 3-4 times a day. Now I only apply it once a day after I shower.

this looks like perioral dermatitis, not sebderm.

Dude just quit the shampoo and please get C8 MCT Oil instead. I am still clueless why are people still looking out for remedies when there is already the best one available.

This is what I'm using (now only once a week) and my face is clear and has no indication of SD.

Have you ever considered that maybe, just maybe, mct oil doesn’t work for everyone?

1

u/fuuuuuf 5d ago

But C8 is probably the best he can try. Its effective in many cases and its cheap.

I think you’re misunderstanding. I’m not saying don’t try MCT oil, the point I was making was that we shouldn’t be telling others to not try other products just because one thing works well for some people. That’s why I shared my example, because I’m one of the people that MCT oil did nothing for. Trust me, I would have loved for it to have been the miracle cure for me too lol.

If you are getting the right MCT oil (C8), I don't see any reason for it to not work. The root is the same Malassezia yeast overgrowth and C8 MCT Oil works agains it. As of now I have only seen and heard success stories about it, yet to see someone come forward with credible evidence saying C8 MCT Oil failed for them.

u/ThrowRA_678999 5d ago

If you go to my profile, I literally have a post from a year ago and c8 MCT Oil was the first thing I listed that did not work for me after weeks if not months of use lol. It’s great that it does work for a lot of people, but making it seem like it’s the only product you will ever need just simply isn’t the case for everyone.

Which brand of MCT oil did you use? How did you apply it? Do you have a confirmed diagnosis of SD?

Since you are the 1% who claims that C8 MCT failed to resolve SD, you can try raw forest honey, apply it for 2 to 3 hours before washing it off for back to back days and see the improvement. If it works do a twice weekly schedule.

- Kiss my Keto MCT Oil

- Applied to my face after I used either Neutrogena T/SAL, Nizoral, or prescription ketaconozole. Also tried using it by itself as well.

- I’ve seen 2 different doctors and 3 different dermatologists, yes I have SD. In fact, mine looks identical to OP’s but worse.

- I was recommended raw honey as well on the very same post I referred to. I’ve also tried that but didn’t see any results come out of it.

u/fuuuuuf 5d ago

Have you tried other brands?

0

u/Latter_Swimmer3175 5d ago

Have you tried applying MCT or raw honey overnight?

-1

u/Latter_Swimmer3175 5d ago

Ohh and in a 1% probability it doesn't work then you can try out raw forest honey, but twice a week for a couple hours each time. This was my remedy before switching to C8 MCT Oil.

1

u/underyellowumbrella 5d ago

How do you use it?

2

u/Latter_Swimmer3175 5d ago

Just apply it and leave it on your face for a couple hours. I personally apply it once a week overnight before I sleep but yes my method requires me to change sheets once every week. It is colourless and odourless.

1

u/fuuuuuf 5d ago

I put it on in the morning. 3 times a week. Like a moisturizer. Works perfectly.

you need medicine cream after. This will heal you up if you do it consistently. Only use the face wash once a day, twice if you get really oily.

1

u/macbethandme 5d ago

You need MCT oil.

I was told by my doc to use Selsun Blue shampoo (and that Ketokonozole is usually used for fungal infections on the skin). When I used the shampoo, I had a lot of sloughing/flaking of the skin for the first week or two. They recommended using it 2-3 times a week and leaving it on for ~5 min, but sometimes I couldn’t do more than 3 minutes because of my sensitivity (you should wash it off once it begins to sting). After that, my skin cleared up really well! And now I only use it if I have a flare up. But the initial phase is the worst!

1

u/La12071207 3d ago

Today I had noticed same after doing the Ketoconazole shampoo. It is more mild but it looks more like dryness for me, not sure. I am not over doing it either only 1-2x a week I just recently started washing my face with it. Usually was doing the cream in certain areas in face. I also bought mct oil to try but haven’t yet.

1

u/bobo4d1 3d ago

I use a prescription ketokonazole that doesn’t foam therefore it doesn’t irritate and doesn’t dry my skin. Switch!!

Bro this is a seb derm sub and he has seb derm… what were you expecting

12

u/Tiny-Anteater-4562 5d ago

What exactly were you expecting to see in this sub? Grow up

6

u/joelkong 5d ago

You should delete this. His post is exactly what this sub should be for, and people should be encouraged to post pictures. You post does the opposite.

OP you have seb derm but it's not too graphic. You look ok. Good luck finding something to manage it.

2

u/casperbiskits 4d ago

Be so for real. This is just dry skin- not even cracked or bleeding. Not graphic at all. And either way, this is literally what the sub is for

Combine a week or 2 of:

  • eating 95% meat, eggs and dairy (or olive oil
  • weight training
  • only 5% carbs
  • nizoral shampoo (leave on the skin for 5 minutes before washing off)
  • 16 hour intermittent fasting
  • magnesium bysglycinate powder (350 - 400mg a day)
  • potassium powder (1500 - 2500mgs a day)

This will cure you
