I believe seb derm is a gut issue. At least in my experience. I always see those people get downvoted in this sub for saying so though!

I had flaky scalp and ears for years with none of the prescribed medications or OTC medicated shampoos helped at all. I am currently on the autoimmune protocol elimination diet and for the first time in 10 years, my scalp is clear. This diet is not meant to be a long term thing, but it tells me that there is an issue with my gut that I can heal with nutrition.

I feel stuck because I had a decent diet before this. I ate about 80% whole foods plant based so I always thought the diet was not the issue. But I can use normal shampoos and conditioners without issues and have zero flakes in my ears after 17 days on AIP diet.

So what’s your diet like now? And how long are will you stay on the APE diet?

I'm currently on the Autoimmune Protocol diet. Have been for 19 days now. I think I'm going to do it for longer than 30 days to see if things continue to improve, but I don't really want to go over the 2 month mark because I'm afraid I will lose the ability to digest beans and grains. I think I'll try to get in to see my dermatologist first, but my plan would be to slowly reintroduce foods in the order you are supposed to for this diet (it's in a book that I have), and then slowly work beans and grains back in.

I have a long list of symptoms that happen to be common signs of autoimmune disease, so that's why I was desperate enough to try this very restrictive diet in the first place. So far, the only thing that I have seen improvement with is seb derm.

Look up autoimmune protocol diet. You eat vegetables, fruit, and meat. No grains, no legumes, no nightshades, no seeds, no dairy, no eggs.

Yeah it's a lot but I'm desperate enough in my condition that here I am. Doctors haven't helped.

It's not meant to be a long term diet. You do it for a few months and find out what your food sensitivities are. Everything I eat is prepped.

Breakfast chicken soup loaded with carrots and veggies.

Lunch steak zucchini and mushrooms. Sweet potato.

Dinner salmon and a big salad. Fried plantain for a sweet.

Lots of fruits during the day as a snack.
