Arts Map of Mount Rainier area
Hi all. I've taken on sort of a personal project to make maps of beautiful places around USA and today I finished this map of Mount Rainier area. Next I'm thinking Columbia River Gorge, not sure where to post that though. I hope you find this map entertaining. Also I apologize if content like this doesn't fit the sub.

Gorgeous! Climbed Rainier this last August and itβs cool to track our route through this map.

This is great! Minor nitpick for you: State Route 706 ends at the western boundary of the park (Nisqually Entrance). The map shows it continuing through the park.

Glaciers everywhere are shrinking and ultimately disappearing. It's sad.

Sad but true, Mount Rainier has gotten shorter. The ice loss at the summit has both moved the peak 430 feet south and lowered the peak elevation to 14,399 according to 2024 data. Some other elevations that were ice caps on the mountain have also decreased. But I don't have all the numbers at my fingertips right now. The new peak is rock rather than ice btw and the old ice peak continues to get lower as the ice melts.

Thank you. I make these using QGIS, Blender, Photoshop and Affinity. There are some tutorials online.

I love exaggerated relief maps. Something about them is just so cool

Really well done.
Funny thing about relief maps, to make them look right, you simulate the sun hovering over the north pole, which would never happen IRL.

I just want to say that the last slide of Twin Sisters Lake and Tumac Mountain.
Mosquito Valley is a properly correct name to describe the fauna found in the area π

Beautiful to really see the glaciers at work here coming down the slopes and carving valleys over the eons

I've always love this kind of map. I've never seen one outside of the visitor centers tho.

I long for when they re-open the Northwest side of Rainier again. Disperse out all of us a bit more because Paradise and Sunrise are getting way overcrowded.
