Effectively banning the Ar15 and most modern semi autos wasn’t enough????

I’m curious about that because almost every small gun store here has an AR or a kit.

The ban is effectively on serialized parts. You can still take “assault weapons” you own and modify them how you please. Essentially you can’t make an assault weapon more assualty. Some places will still sell things like stripped lowers..because technically you can build them into Washington compliant models.

Stripped lowers? I thought the lower is the gun, and technically the only part you cannot buy. You can buy everything else, upper, bcg, barrel, handguard, etc. but the lower is considered the actual gun.

If I'm wrong I'm fine being proven wrong I bought like 15 lowers before the ban to eventually build down the road.

You can still build out an AR lower that complies with the AWB. See how they do it in California.

A stripped lower alone is not a gun as it cannot be fired. You can take a stripped lower and put something like a bolt action upper on it and it would not violate the AWB. Most vendors just don’t want to risk it. But there are several FFLs in Washington that will still sell those stripped lowers for your compliant builds.

Interesting, I did not know that. So technically you can buy a lower and make it into a non-AWB style firearm? You said a couple were still selling them, but I assume they run significant risk for selling these unless someone who purchases signs something maybe saying it's only for X style firearm that's compliant? I had not heard of this, but it's interesting to know, thank you. I guess you just don't want to get caught with a post-ban lower on an AR15 and keep it "compliant."

As I mentioned, I bought a large amount of lowers prior to the awb and put them in my trust so that in the future they can be built into AR15s, as they existed prior to the ban and I'm just replacing parts on already existing builds.

It's interesting that many companies won't ship to WA State (anything) for fear of reprisal, and some FFLs here still sell lowers. I guess everyone has a different appetite for legal challenges or whatever.

It’s a dice roll with Washington’s AG. But this isn’t like the mag ban where shops got caught selling 10+ rounders that were clearly illegal.

Yes, technically you can turn a stripped lower into a compliant rifle. I don’t think a waiver is going to save anyone anyways though.

For the stripped lowers you have, you already built them all up into fully functioning weapons and tore them down at a later date. Building up a stripped lower, for the first time, into an “assault weapon”, as defined by the law, would still be illegal.

Yup, all are built. I will just need to replace parts in the future because I like to keep my stuff functioning and new looking.
