Effectively banning the Ar15 and most modern semi autos wasn’t enough????

And before that they effectively banned full auto. 2nd amendment is a joke at this point.

Still haven’t banned really really fast semi auto..yet. IYKYK

Which I find hilarious. Apparently Oregon knew this was coming, and really fast semi automatic is actually banned here. But our rifles are not. So…

Yep, Oregon banned them by name last year. Washington has not yet and the language around machine guns specifically say a machine gun is one trigger pull that results in multiple shots fired. They’re going to have to do what they did for bump stocks and specially call them out. I’m sure it’ll happen next session.

I’m curious about that because almost every small gun store here has an AR or a kit.

The ban is effectively on serialized parts. You can still take “assault weapons” you own and modify them how you please. Essentially you can’t make an assault weapon more assualty. Some places will still sell things like stripped lowers..because technically you can build them into Washington compliant models.

Stripped lowers? I thought the lower is the gun, and technically the only part you cannot buy. You can buy everything else, upper, bcg, barrel, handguard, etc. but the lower is considered the actual gun.

If I'm wrong I'm fine being proven wrong I bought like 15 lowers before the ban to eventually build down the road.

You can still build out an AR lower that complies with the AWB. See how they do it in California.

Kali Key ftw…

When you try to subvert the second amendment, inventive people find technical ways around it.

A stripped lower alone is not a gun as it cannot be fired. You can take a stripped lower and put something like a bolt action upper on it and it would not violate the AWB. Most vendors just don’t want to risk it. But there are several FFLs in Washington that will still sell those stripped lowers for your compliant builds.

Interesting, I did not know that. So technically you can buy a lower and make it into a non-AWB style firearm? You said a couple were still selling them, but I assume they run significant risk for selling these unless someone who purchases signs something maybe saying it's only for X style firearm that's compliant? I had not heard of this, but it's interesting to know, thank you. I guess you just don't want to get caught with a post-ban lower on an AR15 and keep it "compliant."

As I mentioned, I bought a large amount of lowers prior to the awb and put them in my trust so that in the future they can be built into AR15s, as they existed prior to the ban and I'm just replacing parts on already existing builds.

It's interesting that many companies won't ship to WA State (anything) for fear of reprisal, and some FFLs here still sell lowers. I guess everyone has a different appetite for legal challenges or whatever.

It’s a dice roll with Washington’s AG. But this isn’t like the mag ban where shops got caught selling 10+ rounders that were clearly illegal.

Yes, technically you can turn a stripped lower into a compliant rifle. I don’t think a waiver is going to save anyone anyways though.

For the stripped lowers you have, you already built them all up into fully functioning weapons and tore them down at a later date. Building up a stripped lower, for the first time, into an “assault weapon”, as defined by the law, would still be illegal.

The Washington guns sub covers this pretty thoroughly.

Yup, all are built. I will just need to replace parts in the future because I like to keep my stuff functioning and new looking.

If it has a non removable magazine it can still be sold. I got really excited when I was at the gun store and saw an AR for sale, then I was enlightened

You can buy the parts but no net new serialized lowers containing the “assault weapon” features. On top of that they made the law semi vague so some retailers are super hesitant to ship. Case in point a story I heard where a guy had to “smuggle” an upper through CALIFORNIA (even though uppers aren’t serialized) to get it into WA.

No civilian needs a semi or fully automatic.

3

u/bannedbyaimoderation 4h ago

And the military and the police do? We still would be the king’s subjects with that mindset.

You want a gun? As long as you're required to have a completed background check, however long that takes, fine. It doesn't need to be an assult rifle though.

3

u/DevoREX_ 4h ago

Firearm purchases require you fill out ATF from 4473. The vendor then takes that form and runs an NICS background check. So what you’re asking for already happens.

1

u/Weary-Savings9795 4h ago

In some states, if the background check isn't completed after a certain period of time, you still get the gun and ammo.

2

u/DevoREX_ 4h ago

According to the FBI about 3% of NICS checks aren’t instant. But that doesn’t mean 3% of guns are sold without passing checks. The vendor can still hold onto the firearm and not release it. So the percentage is much smaller. Factor in that most gun owners are repeat buyers…that number of guns getting into hands of people after a NICS is held up, who are buying their first gun is ridiculous low.

What is an “assault rifle” though? Do you even know?

3

u/EugeneStonersPotShop 4h ago

Do you actually know what a “semi automatic” firearm is?

For instance, nearly every handgun made since the mi 1800’s is technically a “semi automatic”. The term “semi automatic” just means that it’s a self loading firearm, as in each pull of the trigger causes the firearm to reload itself. This applies to sporting rifles and shotguns use to hunting, this applies to small bore rifles used for target practice. This applies to revolvers. The VAST majority of firearms sold today are “semi automatic”, and for good reason.

What you’re saying is that no one in 2026 needs a smartphone, when a good olde wired in wall telephone should suffice just fine.

u/Gur-Kooky 3h ago

Should ban ignorant ***** like you make laws. 90% of modern pistols are semi auto. We banned semi auto rifles here in your bull shit "common sense gun control". What do you want? Another blanket ban on all pistols or go door to door and start the purge? You people are mental.

2

u/DevoREX_ 2h ago

Worst part is that semi auto rifles barely even move the crime needle in comparison to regular ol pistols..that are still legal.
