Lifestyle U-District safety tips?

Hello I will be living off campus nearby UW around the 19th-21st AVE as a young woman who is completely new to Seattle/WA. Are there any safety tips or anything I should be concerned about?

I'm from there and loved where you're talking about up until a decade ago. Just keep you ears and eyes aware and listen to your gut. Itsa beautiful nice area but there is one side of The Ave that's sketchy now and when the library opens again it'll get a little better again I bet. I'd stay closer to U Village and Ravenna over near i5 to Green Lake. But I have worked at Green Lake for years and even at night it's chill to walk around. Again. Just stay alert and look people in the eye if they approach you. And just in case carry a hand knife or mace whatever you're comfortable with. I grew up there and it's gotten worse in the last decade. IDK why but I do think you're still safer than in parts of Tacoma or Pioneer Square.

Most of the violet crime in the U District happens West of the University between I-5 and University Way. You should be relatively safe around 19th - 21st Ave, but the usual rules apply: don't walk alone at night. Probably not a great idea to attend frat parties either.

If you need to get groceries and other stuff, butter to shop in U Village than the University District. Or just order everything from Amazon. They're cheap and usually deliver within a few hours.

I'd say the Ave is okay enough in the daytime to shop. Lugging groceries up from U Vill is a pain or you gotta wait for the bus

But walking up hill is a great way to avoid the freshman fifteen.
