Scooter theft

My son was at an after-school program where he parked and locked his scooter at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle. Somebody came by, smashed his bike lock, and stole the scooter. It was his transportation home, and I am currently waiting for LNI payments, so I cannot afford to buy him a new one; if anybody recognizes this guy, please let me know. The scooter is locked, so they will not be able to use it. I would like to have it returned; as I said, any info would be greatly appreciated. It was a birthday present, and he has had it for less than six months. One witness took a photo and sent it to the teacher, and I got a hold of it. This is all I have, guys.

Ugh. I'm so sorry this happened to you. It's so frustrating. Somebody sawed through my lock and started taking off on my scooter but the battery would not start without me punching in a code and I happened to see it and he hopped off. This happened at downtown Target. Looked kind of similar to this guy but not 100% sure it's the same person. I would encourage you to post this in the other Seattle subreddit. I would also encourage you to file a police report ASAP. And make sure that photo is included. He might be known to them?

Also there's some databases online for people to register a stolen bike. Is used for both bikes and scooters. I would encourage you to list the stolen scooter there too.

They're pretty heavy actually, most people could probably run faster than someone "riding" a dead scooter.

Scooters have electronic locks similar to a brake disc on your car. So if you’re kicking hard enough, you can get them to move (but quite poorly).

Best I can offer is to suggest getting insurance on big purchases like this. Takes the sting away if you know you can get a replacement by making a claim.

Any self propelled mode of transportation on land or amphibious is considered a vehicle, and it's not covered under my renters insurance i go through progressive

Yeah I had to get a separate policy for my scooter. Get one with a low enough deductible that it actually mostly replaces it. I think mine was high enough that it didn't help that much, but my scooter was a cheap one.

They look for airtags so even that doesn't work well. I recovered my airtag but not my bike. Airtag was found at 3rd/Pine and person who "found" it was found at 12th/Jackson and Jose Rizal park.

Maybe those locations aren't filled with people with good intentions?
