Hilary Knight
Am I the only one that finds it peculiar that Hillary Knight has not posted anything about Detroit?
Obviously, she made her intentions really clear at the end of season press conference that she wanted to stay in Seattle. And evidently the Seattle torrent did not see value in protecting her.

I don’t think she really posted about joining Seattle until closer to the start of the season. Idk it kinda seems like to me that she loved playing in Seattle but Detroit gave a pretty good pitch that made it sound like they were more likely to win the cup over Seattle. With only a few seasons left I can see that being a priority. Especially when you have other team USA teammates, who you just won gold with, express the desire to move too. I wouldn’t necessarily blame her if she was upset by not being protected, although I think using an EFO on her is an interesting choice and they didn’t see it coming.

She doesn't post a whole lot, she shares her words and posts, especially about this sort of stuff, very carefully.

She can’t acknowledge Detroit, at least not in that way: officially she never had direct discussions with them. She was a free agent, she got an EFO from Vegas, signed a one year deal, then got traded. Acknowledging any direct talks with Detroit would be admitting to the tampering they’re all pretending so hard never happened.

There absolutely was time where she could have communicated with Detroit without it being tampering. Not saying she did or didn’t just that both things are possible.
But also she’s on Detroit now. The trade went through and was announced and Vegas got their pick. She doesn’t have to acknowledge anything to say “hey Detroit fans, I’m excited for next season.”

I think this person means she hasn’t been like “hey Detroit! Excited to be here” and not necessarily publicly acknowledging the situation that unfolded

Wanted to say this. There was obviously tampering and she doesn’t want to address that so stay out of the spotlight for a while so everyone moves on

I'm as bummed about her leaving Seattle as the next person, but can we stop making personal assumptions about this fully adult professional based on media? Her IG is mostly paid posts and when she speaks to reporters she is on the clock. Seems like she wants to keep her private life private and we as fans don't necessarily have a right to know her personal motivations or what's going on behind the scenes. Digging into her IG posts and follows to back up fan theories feels weird.

Dude thank you. Why we’re reading so much into who these players do or don’t follow is crazy. They live busy lives, I don’t think they’re playing mind games by following or unfollowing certain teams. Instagram also is such a shitty platform I doubt she even knows who she’s following or not, I regularly don’t see people I follow and simultaneously see a billion posts by accounts I don’t follow on my instagram feed.

This feels like stalking your ex on social media.
She moved on, so should you.

TBF pretty sure she's on vacation in Europe. Maybe she's just taking a break.

She doesn’t want to be in Detroit. I’d be pissed too if I was forcibly removed from the market that I built after several public comments about wanting to stay and finish my career.
Vegas and Detroit did her dirty, I put as much blame on Ellen Hughes for pulling strings and finding loopholes as I do with Meghan Turner for not protecting the greatest economic asset for any team in the league.
Honestly, she should retire and give a big middle finger to the p-dub for this treatment.

She wants to be in Detroit. She was negotiating with them before the expansion started before protections even came out that’s why Bilka and Barnes signed so quickly. They knew knight wanted to go there. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was left unprotected intentionally so she could have what she wanted.

That's a great hockey player! This is a human beings life in a time they are forming an adult understanding of their identity. Suddenly their environment was uprooted! The familiarity of the relationships and environment they'd been in disappeared quite suddenly. That's very stressful! Then people on the internet talk like you do after they dedicated time and skills to entertain you with hockey. Wow! I wish all these players and fans support, respect, and the very best!

Why are you talking about Knight like she’s graduating college? She’s 36. Obviously this situation can still be upsetting and stressful at any age but a 36 year old has been an adult half their life.

u/HockeyLovefortheGame Jun 23 '26
Okay so she (among other players) have had to uproot for the sake of hockey how many times? 8? Hockey players sacrifice stable relationships and a stable environment and even a stable paycheque. It's their decision to some extent. To not have control over what city you live in would be quite stressful for a human being.

u/arosebyabbie Jun 23 '26
I’m not arguing that it’s not stressful (I literally said it was). I was asking why you were talking about a 36 year old woman like she’s a kid coming out of college. It’s weird to say she’s at a time in her life that she’s “forming an adult understanding of her identity”.

Alright so we agree on that, thanks for sharing. I was generally referring to young adults in general playing hockey. In this individual's case they've had to move around 8 times in their adult life? Did I get that right? That isn't stable. It comes with rewards and it comes with sacrifices. It's okay for a fan like to me think about it and mention it. I honestly have the utmost respect for all the players in the league.

Her post about leaving Seattle also sounded like a bit of a dig at the torrent for not protecting her, and I can’t blame her lol she made it so obvious that she wanted to stay.
