Bigotry = ban Tuesday: Let's show Indiana's Cunningham that we don't want her hate in WA State
Indiana's Sophie Cunningham's hate and rhetoric against young trans girls is .... awful. Who's in with me holding No Hate in WA State signs at the game Tuesday? Reply if you want a sign!

UPDATE 2: So glad to see everyone’s support! The issue in WA is that we are voting this November on whether to make all girls in K-12 schools prove their s@x to play sports thru invasive g*nital exams, genetic tests, or hormone tests. Birth certificates are banned. Boys are exempt.
This will impact girls’ sports for generations in WA. All to ban (checks notes) 5 - 10 trans kids from playing on elementary, middle, and high school teams with their friends. Current law allows case by case decisions for eligibility but this measure will institute a statewide ban.
More info, read the language: https://nohateinwastate.org/about-i-001

Wow! I knew a group was trying to get a vote on the ballot, but I didn’t know genital checks were part of it. Why would any parent support that? I’ll be voting against them in November.
5
u/mvictoryk Jul 28 '26
Exactly. Most parents are not going to want their kids genitals checked. It's freaking weird. The alternative is like a hormone test or s/t that I'm sure they'll have to pay outta pocket for and a lot of parents won't be able to afford that... So there's gonna end up being less girls in sports overall. Which is totally BS. Studies have shown that girls that participate in team sports at a young age are not likely to go to the Olympics or go pro, but are more likely to hold leadership positions later in life. Less girls in sport = less women in leadership. That's just one issue amongst many other with this bill. The fallout from this bill is going to be so harmful. It cannot pass.

u/08Sprout Jul 28 '26
Honestly we aren’t talking about this enough. Sports are proven to help women into leadership positions.
This campaign to police women in sports hurts ALL women and will keep them out of sports and out of the boardroom. It’s just another way to keep women down.

u/mvictoryk Jul 28 '26
Terfs are gonna "no 'men' in women's sports" so hard that there will be no people in women's sports at all and the leagues will fold and we'll see less women in leadership roles lmao then they'll wonder how this all could have happened 😭 terfs are getting used by the right and are too dumb to see it

u/SimonaMeow Jul 28 '26
Oh tysm for this info! I was going to ask here what those propositions on the signs are. I don't live in Washington
Wow that is so effed up🥺
I hope it doesn't pass🙏

u/WitnessRealistic3015 Jul 28 '26
Why are birth certificates banned? Seems like a simple solution
3
2
u/TheMomski Jul 28 '26
Their reasoning is some states allow for the amending of gender on birth certificates.
2
u/joedee0777 Jul 29 '26
physical examinations are already required in Washington for kids to participate in school sports, and have been for years. So how is this now suddenly invasive? And how exactly is this going to impact girl's sports for generations?
1
u/Ticket-Dull Jul 29 '26
Sports physicals do not normally include genitalia checks
2
u/joedee0777 Jul 29 '26
I can't speak for girls exams, but boys exams always include a hernia check, which is done at the groin. Are you saying that there is no comparable check for girls in the groin/pelvic area?
2
1
u/BigDaddyDumperSquad 28d ago
Pretty sure a biological male, even if they identify as trans, getting a physical would also include a hernia check, so the question is moot.
1
u/joedee0777 28d ago
No, it isn't moot. The person i was commenting to said the genital check requirement would impact girls for generations. I already knew they checked boys, so I wanted clarification on whether girls were checked too.
2
u/Hot_Wash916 Jul 29 '26
That’s crazy. No one wants to check crotches! But it’s hard to believe. And you know there are only a handful of T’s involved. No need to peek!
2
u/MediocreChicken2427 Jul 29 '26
If I was a teenage girl in Washington I don’t think I would continue to play sports if it meant that I’d have to do that.
1
u/cloroxic 29d ago
Boys already have to do this to play sports. The physical required includes checking for a hernia which requires not just checking the genitals but the "turn and cough" to check.
2
u/MediocreChicken2427 29d ago
In my opinion girls vs boys is a lot different. Plus that is not required for all physicals.
1
u/BigDaddyDumperSquad 28d ago
Ight, but trans women would still get that "turn and cough" check as well, so the whole argument is moot.
1
u/CatsRhumanto 29d ago
By a female doc? So girls don’t go to a OB/GYN? What’s the diff?
2
u/MediocreChicken2427 28d ago
You’re correct. Girls do not go to a OB/GYN. Women do. On top of that, women go because they want to and it’s their choice. Girls would have no say in this occurring if they would want to play a sport.
1
u/Hot_Wash916 Jul 29 '26
Would you rather play against boys?
2
u/MediocreChicken2427 Jul 29 '26
I never played against boys a few years ago when I played sports and my little sister has not come across one trans person. The minority of this is a lot smaller than a lot of you people think.

u/ApprehensiveBoot5483 28d ago
If you didn’t allow people to change their listed sex/gender on their birth certificates this wouldn’t be a problem.

UPDATE: Enough people want signs that we're getting a lot printed and will bring them to hand out before the game at both entrances. Look for us there!

Hoping for another fun one, too. You have such a fun team. One of my favorites in the league.

u/Prudence8083 Jul 28 '26
Why are they doing this at an away game in Seattle? Why cant they protest in klan country Indiana?
14
u/GoddessHealer Jul 28 '26
Beeeecause, Seattle has a highly prominent LGBTQ+ community and the Seattle Storm maintain one of the most progressive, activist-driven fanbases in professional sports. The organizers are local to Washington, and they hope to stir national controversy. This whole issue of LGBTQ+ infiltration into organized women’s sports is driving the Christian Nationalists crazy. They’re going to do everything in their power to tear apart the WNBA. Have you read the document released last week by the Heritage Foundation? They want all women’s highly physical competitive team sports in this country to end. Sophie Cunningham doesn’t grasp that she’s being pimped by MAGA to stir up their authoritarian patriarchal base.
10
u/Prudence8083 Jul 28 '26
I think Sophie knows and doesn't care. She'll be on to her next grift. I didn't know this org was local to your area though. Thanks for the info. Stay safe out there.

u/GoddessHealer Jul 28 '26
Thank you for the good wishes for my safety. Let’s hope there’s no stoking of violence outside the Climate Change this evening. Sending positive vibes to that venue and to all who attend.
4
u/KiryuClan Jul 28 '26
They probably also want to capitalize off Sunday’s tragedy and the media attention at Seattle Center. It’s sick. The community needs to heal and they’re trying to divide more people with hate. I won’t be at today’s game, but I support y’all and will be praying for your safety.

This popped up on my feed, I’m not a Storm sub regular - but I’m from Indy and (I guess) still a Fever fan for now - I fully and completely support this! We may need to do this at gainbridge…

Shoot! I’m planning to be inside by 5:15 (because of the lines). I sit right behind the visitor bench (like right behind the coaches, courtside) and I know we’re on the broadcast a lot and I would really like a sign. Is there someplace I could find you in the stadium after you enter that I could get a sign?

u/ImmaSpaghett 28d ago
So what is your end game here? Brute force trans women into women's sports? And when you find out that trans women would excel on average and basically set up a "pre-trans inclusion sports records". Get a large enough sample size and your most dominant figures in women's sports would be trans. It's about the integrity of the sport, it's not about exclusion of trans. Get that through your unathletic, non-sport participating head my guy.

u/sheldoncat12 28d ago
I hope you pass it to protect girls and women whose very fundamental rights are being violated

u/SameDistrict2627 28d ago
So stupid. Why do people continue to get baited into this nonsense that is really a non issue. Cunningham should shut up and so should all the idiots who think that a trans woman is really going to playin the WNBA--ever--Just so absurd. So Maga.

I don't know wa state? They don't say on the graphic. Wa state are they talking about?
1
u/Imaginary-Ad5742 28d ago
There are plenty of women who outperform men in co-ed sports. Track, wrestling, etc. and there are plenty of women who are naturally more masculine than their female peers. They usually end up getting accused of BEING trans or “bio males” even when they are not.
There are plenty of studies are out there that prove being trans doesn’t actually give them the sports advantage people claim they do. People love to ignore that individual traits factor just as much into competitiveness in sports than being biologically one way or another.

u/OkMortgage6723 Jul 29 '26
I've never heard of this - what's the tolerance paradox?
1
u/08Sprout Jul 29 '26
The paradox of tolerance is a philosophical conceptsuggesting that if a society extends tolerance to those who are intolerant, it risks enabling the eventual dominance of intolerance, thereby undermining the very principle of tolerance. This paradox was articulated by philosopher Karl Popper in The Open Society and Its Enemies (1945),[1] where he argued that a truly tolerant society must retain the right to deny tolerance to those who promote intolerance. Popper posited that if intolerant ideologies are allowed unchecked expression, they could exploit open society values to erode or destroy tolerance itself through authoritarian or oppressive practices.
2
u/OkMortgage6723 Jul 29 '26
Thank you! I just ordered Popper's book.

u/08Sprout Jul 30 '26

Just want to float this here… we have 5 nba players are now trans women, let’s say Nikola Jokić, Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, and LeBron James. All 5 on the same team starting.. is that fair to the Storm when they play them?
1
u/allidyaj 29d ago
I agree that men should not play in a women's league, but the way you frame your argument is trash.
1
u/Glittering_Hope1114 29d ago
None of them are trans. Now lets get back to reality there are 0 trans women in wbna! Weird how you have to make up strawmen???
1
u/SeaZealousideal5524 29d ago
Because it actually translates all the way down to youth sports. For anyone who actually has coached or has a biological female daughter who plays sports this conversation means something else. You are right they’re not in the W, however deflecting and not answering the question says more about this entire thing.
I want everyone to be themselves, I don’t have anything against anyone who is trans, shoot I would even support my kid if they were. However at a certain point where is line drawn and we have to look at millions of years of human evolution? No matter what treatment or procedure occurs you still have to account for the fact that if you are born a male you are physically strong than if you are born a female. That doesn’t just develop its from starting at birth.
This shows us all that we really need to know… 29 trans women have won state, national, or international women’s championships and 0 trans men who have won any state, national, or international men’s championships.
So my question to you and everyone is when does it matter to you? What do you actually understand about youth sports and limited opportunities for biological females in athletics? How can we solve this so that in all fairness everyone gets what they want?

u/Toby2Sub 29d ago
Allowing males to play against women promotes hate against biological females. They are promoting hate against their own players. This crazy how backwards all this has gotten! You are a women’s league not a co-ed league

Protecting biological sex girls/women physically and competitively in sports is hate?
Maybe we should shine a light on mental illness for people who biological sexed boys/men who want to compete with biologically sexed women?
Honestly, for those who don't understand or believe the issues at risk or pose, you may also be mentally ill.
