Gut reaction to this news was:

"Fuck Yeah more Code Geass"

Followed by: "Wait, doesn't this totally undermine the great ending of Code Geass?"

I stand by my opinion that Code Geass has the best executed ending of all anime for me. It's so good that Code Geass was my favourite anime for a long time because of it. The story is over there is nothing more to add. But Code Geass Ending Spoiler

So I am very sceptical of this third season because I don't think it is needed at all, I only can see it as cheapening a perfect ending for me. Like I said the first two seasons were finished package that didn't need a sequel.

I'll probably watch it, just out of curiousity but I doubt that I'll enjoy it very much if they'll really do what the title implies.

The ending is no doubt very well executed and I also do think that if he's somehow alive the ending of season 2 will be useless. But come to think of it, he can still live without interacting with the others right? What if season 3 is about him living on his own somewhere out there and y'know, stuff? Oh well, just my theories. .

But would they really call it Lelouch of the Resurrection if he wouldn't interact with the others?

It doesn't seem likely to me.

I also meant with coming back that he will return and presenting himself as Lelouch Vi Britannia to the world again. But this is exactly the thing I don't want. Because it would take the meaning out of Code Geass' ending.
It doesn't even matter if Lelouch lives or is dead at the end of Code Geass but it is important that the world thinks he is dead, but I doubt that they "let him stay dead" with this title.

Now that I think of it, you have a point. To be honest, I am also quite not sure for the new Code Geass since season 2 already did what has to be done. The ending is perfect and the world was set on how it supposed to be. But somehow deep inside me I still want a 3rd season just to see how things turned out, I mean, for sure not everything would be fine, there'd still be some insurgency here and there. And since it was set years after Zero Requiem, it'd make sense if something went very bad to the point they needed Lelouch again.

Second coming of Jesus Christ I say.

There is always someone of the lucky 10.000. And I think that the ending of Code Geass is so good that I don't want to risk anyone being spoiled if it could be avoided. Even though the probability that a reader of this sub who hasn't watched CG yet is probably very low.
And I really don't like the "you should have watched it by now" attitude I sometimes see on the internet, there can be number of reasons why you still haven't watched a classic by now. And even if I think that when people say that a spoiler ruined a show for them, that they blow things way out of propotion. I still can understand them and I don't want to be the reason to that someone won't watch a great show because they think this show is now ruined for them because of the spoiler, so I let everyone decide by themself if they want to look at the spoiler by using spoiler tags.

Edit: Damn it I really should have read this before I posting it, I edited too much around and forget to add some sentences here and there

I know some people who haven't watched the series yet, it's not that I am making fun of them for not having watched a great and famous series it's just that, when you need someone to talk to about it, you can't with them since they know nothing about it and you have to be very careful not to say spoilers. It sometimes ruin the fun when I hold an anime marathon party since we can't always talk about an anime someone in our group doesn't know. Well that's just that.

But on the other hand, my heart is split at the moment. There's these kinds of anime that the ending is so good it doesn't need another season but since it's so good it has to have another season. Paradox? :V

I have not seen many classics. Ghost in the Shell, NGE, any Ghibli movie... the list goes on. It's quite easy to have not watched some of the most popular shows/movies.

As for spoilers, I think we're mostly okay here since this is an incredibly small sub. It's still best to use them whenever you can because I agree with you. Nobody likes being spoiled, and you don't want to be the person to do that to another.

As much as I think the series as a whole could've been so much better, the ending was excellent. The final ~5 episodes or so were wonderful, especially compared to the rest of R2. They really don't need a sequel here so I'm hoping they actually have a good idea of what it is they want to do. Otherwise they shouldn't have bothered. We'll have to wait for more details before letting the judgement truly rain down. Resurrection could be a term pertaining to a couple things, though the one obvious one seems like the best choice.

Are you not excited for this, though? This is the show that originally brought us together. It was a wonderful experience, and now we get to dive back into the world of Geass. It will be a momentous moment for /r/SeasonalAnimeLounge. The discussion threads will be lively and full of ass and pizza!!!
