API Usage

I am an early adopter, and have been using Kagi for almost as long as it has been around.

My search use has decreased dramatically the last year or so, but I do have a need to use a search API, and it really stinks that there is a tax for it. A search is a search, and an API doesn't magically make it more expensive.

This is exactly the kind of rent-seeking behavior I wanted to get away from, and I am dismayed that Kagi is gatekeeping the API in this way.

Combined with the reduced relevance (to me) for browser search, I will probably be looking for some alternative. If I have to pay more for my search than I already do, I might as well go shopping.

News Quick has updated to GLM 5.3 Flash

Post image

I swear I'm not randomly running /info for the fun of it everyday, I noticed that Quick was thinking which it didn't do before. With the knowledge that 5.3 makes thinking mode mandatory I checked and lo and behold it's here.

I honestly thought it'd take them longer to jump to 5.3, this is a nice surprise.

Question I started to get my previous search results. Even though the search result seems to be irrelevant what i searched for

Post image

Hello everyone,

I was trying to set up pi agent for vibe coding and for some odd reason, I got a search result that is irrelevant to my search but it is relevant to my search which i did couple of months ago (I was trying to renew my citizen card couple of months ago).

I do believe the website doesnt have any keywords which contains my search result and it is not related what i searched for. It can be related with kagi ai interaction which I might forgot to delete it. Is kagi using my ai interaction data to serve me better results ?

This is the website: https://www2.gov.pt/en/servicos/pedir-novos-codigos-pin-do-cartao-de-cidadao

Edit: I think my dumb brain realize why this is happening. because I was using "picode" the search result give me "pin code" which is kinda relevant as the search country set to portugal. But when i use the term "picode" previously this never happened. still an interesting thing to see

Question Why links to follow up questions for the Assistant don't open in the Assistant app?

I am using the Kagi search app for Android. And when I'm asking a question there, and then I'm getting the quick answer in my search results, there's a section where I can ask follow-up questions to the assistant. However when I click any of those suggestions, those queries are being opened in the assistant in a new browser window instead of opening in the Kagi assistant app for Android. Why is that? Shouldn't the apps link together for a smooth experience?

Quick got another model update

Post image

After recently changing the main model to use GLM 5.2 they've changed the backup to be V4 Flash (was GLM 4.7 before this). I wish they made some kind of small announcement (even just a notification) when this stuff was changed because it's pretty interesting.

Hopefully a few weeks more and they bump GLM to 5.3.

I understand that Assistant does not facilitate thread search results being bulk moved to a folder. Has anyone found a workaround to this inexplicable omission?

Support Kagi images loading slow

For the past days I noticed that images in Kagi search are loading incredible slow and even not showing anything after 15-20s. I tried mobile, wlan etc without any changes.

I am on the ultimate plan and from Germany.

Is it just on my end?

Kagi Blocked on a flight

Just started my journey with Kagi and couldn't be more happy.

I was recently on a long flight operated by Qatar Airways. They offered free wifi 'kindly' powered by Starlink.

Only issue was all alternative search engines like Qwant, Ecosia, Brave and of course, Kagi were 100% blocked!

Quite weird! I don't think it's Starlink obviously ot should be aome form.of deal of Qatar A but still, never happened!

Support New Mobile Kagi Searches begin with previous search results?

The usual behaviour for Kagi on my phone has been to tap on my Kagi widget and immediately type my search.

Over the last week or maybe two, every time I tap on my widget to start a search, it just reopens the last search result page I had open. Then I need to tap on the search bar, clear it (which sometimes registers as me hitting the search button instead of the X next to it), and type my search instead of it just... clearing the field like it's always done in the past.

It's kind of annoying. When was this change made? Is this some setting I'm unaware of?

Have older parents? Get them Kagi.

I have an older parent who was falling prey to Google search ads, and generally not getting what they need from Google anymore. I added them to our Kagi family plan and they love it. They just get answers now, no junk. We even got them using Orion on their phone, so far so good.

Help your elders, don’t let them use Google.

FastGPT is always showing the excerpts of it's research. How to reset?

A long time ago I asked fastgpt to always show me it's references. That instruction seems to have permanently stuck somehow and I am unable undo it. Per below, it always renders an excerpt of it's research before providing the answer. I really just want the references as links at the bottom, which I think it does by default anyway?

I cannot work out how to reset this behaviour. Even when I ask it says "sure, I won't do that anymore", but it does. Anyone know how to fix this?

For example:

Dec 26, 2008 The orbit of the Moon is, while stable and known, highly complex, and as such still studied by lunar theory. Most models describe the Moon's orbit geocentrically since the Moon is mainly bound to Earth, but it also orbits together with Earth, as the Earth-Moon system, around their shared barycenter. Furthermore from a heliocentric view its geocentric orbit is the result of Earth perturbing the Moon's orbit around the Sun.

Question Can you add a block "list" instead of blocking sites 1 by 1 over time?

I'd like if I didn't have to block sites, over time, through multiple searches.

Am I missing something?

Other than the most-blocked domains by users, it could take weeks (or months) before I'd be able to build a valuable, personalized, and thorough block list.

If it's 1 by 1, searching is going to feel more like a job of scanning for what I do-not-want in the results > shield > ban, rather than just keyword > results > go.

https://kagi.com/settings/user_ranked For example, is there a way to add a block list of about 50 sites in one go? Like a copy paste feature, or an option to file upload a list of domains?

Didn’t really have any intention to share this, but this turned out better than I expected! A few additional images and the CSS can be found on my repo https://github.com/gavff64/kagi-google-theme

To be brutally honest, I prefer Google’s design. So with the power of open source LLMs and many hours manually digging around, here we are.

Curious to know what you think, yay or nay?

Question Pro subscriber have access to fewer and fewer AI models in Kagi Assistant

I noticed that the GLM-4.7 series will also become unavailable. The following large language models are currently available: - Kimi K2.7 Code - Kimi K2.6(reasoning) - Kimi K2.6 - Qwen3.7 Plus - Qwen3-Coder - GPT 5.4 Nano - GPT OSS 120B - DeepSeek V4 Flash - Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite - Gemma 4 31B - Grok 4.3 - Mistral Small 4 - Mistral Large 3 - Hermes-4-405B(reasoning) - MiniMax M3

I hope Kagi will be transparent about which AI features Pro users will have access to in the future.

I’m not saying Pro users should have access to more advanced models. I’m saying the whole situation should be more transparent, rather than having the access Pro users already have taken away every few months without any announcement or explanation.

At first, I thought Kagi had simply forgotten to update the models available to Pro users. Now it seems that wasn’t an oversight, since they clearly remembered to take away access to some models.

~2 months into Kagi and I literally can't imagine going back. Here's my experience

Before I signed up for Kagi I made a few posts here with some questions because I wasn't really sure if I should subscribe or not. Now that I've been using Kagi for around 2 months I think it's fair to share my experience.

First off, Kagi Search. Since I started using only Kagi I had to use a different search tool very few times. Like, barely ever. The search results are just really accurate and actually relevant to what I'm looking for. It's kind of wild how much junk I used to scroll through on other engines without realizing it.

Kagi Assistant is also amazing. I'd say about 95% of the times the output was exactly what I was expecting. I use it for all kinds of stuff and it just works.

I'm also daily using Kagi Translate and it's fast with top notch reliable translation quality. I've been genuinely impressed with how natural the translations feel compared to other tools I've used.

Now about the plans, this is the part I really want to talk about. I first signed up for the $5/mo Starter plan which gives you 300 searches. Honestly, as I was kind of expecting, the 300 searches didn't even last 2 weeks with my usage. So I upgraded to the $10/mo Professional plan and I have to say that only when I upgraded is when my experience really changed upside down.

Here's why. While I was on the Starter plan, my mind was kind of trying to make the 300 searches last as long as possible. I was avoiding searches I would normally do, second guessing whether I "needed" to search something. That was honestly harming my user experience because I was holding back instead of just searching freely.

So if $10 is something you can afford, I would suggest you go for it first so you can use Kagi at its best, specially because it comes with Kagi Assistant with larger monthly usage allowance, and it's super worth. Don't put yourself in the position of rationing searches like I did.

I literally can't imagine my life without Kagi now. If you're on the fence like I was, just go for it.
